The best surf logo segment was one of the all-time best of the Grit Podcast… but Chas… how did you guys not at least Zog’s Sex Wax an Honorable Mention? Or maybe I missed it… back in the 80’s my New Jersey shore high school would send kids home to change if they stepped foot in the building with the circle logo on their backs – which meant kids with a single parent or 2 parents who worked 8-6 always wore the shirt on days of school day swell of course…

I find it interesting that these anecdotes only came out AFTER he started losing. Not one peep of this stuff prior to that.
I recall this as I was in America at the time and due to Air France suffering one of their weekly worker strikes although it may have been the French air traffic controllers or the train drivers or the Lorient garbagemen with everyone else striking in solidarity I had a lot of reading/drinking time in the AF lounge @ the Miami airport.

So claw and singer were 70.years old when they deservedly sold their business, they have been more involved in supporting all the surfing genre’s and characters than any of us will ever be and you say they sold out geez give us a break.
Wave Riding Vehicles and the porpoise logo, hard not to be near the top of list.
After snapping a San Juan shaped from the original Thruster templates, (San Juan had a licence from Simon), I went from that 5’11” sled to a 6’8″ Lightning Bolt single fin. While at the time it was a bit of an anachronism, it was possibly the best thing for my surfing development. Learnt to find the lines to generate speed. And learnt about tube riding. Good times.
I had a 6’8” Brian Cregan which I picked up from Bob Coopers as a 12 year old kid after the Shane Popout was stolen on holidays …. I love those thieves till this day …. kept it for 2 glorious years before jumping on a 5’8 twin fin
