World Surf League CEO Erik Logan pledges to “help restart economic engine” severely damaged by Covid-19 by “bringing world’s best surfers to the North Shore!”

Powerful.

But oh drat, here we go again. The world ready to go back under lock and key as dreaded Covid-19 cases rage across the United States of America, Europe, Australia. The global economy losing the oxygen it so desperately needs to fire. Last lockdown, everyone except face mask makers lost their job and many business were forced to shutter.

People only fed, clothed, kept warm thanks to largess of government.

This coming lockdown, though, there is surprising new player ready to provide much needed stimulus.

Our World Surf League.

As you well know, the 2020/21 World Championship Tour sparks to life on Maui (on the women’s side) and Oahu’s North Shore (for the men). According to Hawaii News Now, spectators will not be allowed on the beach and the WSL will be broadcasting from private homes in order to have “no active presence at Pipeline and Sunset.”

Even still, World Surf League CEO Erik Logan is bullish about professional surfing’s impact, telling the CBS affiliate, “We feel really, really confident of leaning and help restart the economic engine by bringing the world’s best surfers to the North Shore.”

I don’t know what the leaning business is about but am very proud of our favorite pastime’s power.

Do you think that the world’s best surfers going to the North Shore will help restart Hawaii’s economy or the global economy?

I think maybe global since, again, the WSL will have “no active presence at Pipeline and Sunset” but also because I’m generally anti-depressive.

In any case, very exciting and inspirational. I hope that CEO Logan gets many calls from world leaders thanking him, and us by proxy, for our service.

Extremely cool.

Does anyone here watch the content that WSL puts out? I mean shows, not live contests. Just curious

Lemon Next to the Pie

I am grateful for it. What I am ungrateful for is that even more could be done, were they paying the regulation taxes they should be. And not using subsidies to prop up their profits for the owners, often in privately held companies, so not even benefiting shareholders.

FFS Chas get it right ….”The world ready to go back under lock and key as dreaded Covid-19 cases rage across the United States of America, Europe, Australia. “
Australia is not going back under lock and key , only the dipshit nations who didn’t listen to their scientists , are now or still having their economies and pandemic ridden country’s going into lock down…we all good here , lockdown finishing , life returning to normal…and the rest of you welcome to the second or third wave of the pandemic….

20 mule team

It only takes one of us infected scum to come in to your zone and start the whole process over again!!!! Comin in hot Brutus! You better hunker down for life or at least until your masters tell you it’s safe to live.

ValiantScorn

The band kept playing as the Titanic went down.

Well, so they say.

samwaters

Well, I guess the Wsl can’t just give up and admit that basically no one misses pro surfing, and Dirk won’t go down without some kind of a fight, he’s got the $$ to put up a good front.

Hippy

what a horrific investment….

Astrophysicien

Not in Ziff’s tax status.

Tom

Restarting the words economic engine???? No spectators but broadcast globally – pay per view
May be enough viewing audience to economically kickstart half a small mongolian village

Eddie Haiku

Shows where his brain’s at
He talks money and we talk
Sunset and Pipeline

Manuka

Chass, you are the best when it comes to “aus Scheiße Gold machen”.
Keep it up!

Beef & Beer

They should get poopies on the payroll, the vloggers voice of reason…

astro

I think the leaning happens just before the reach around.

Ricky Spanish

Yet another shining example of the WSL’s commitment to philanthropy. Saving the world one contest at a time.

Mads Naeraa

The world needs more leaning!

Phat-wan kerr

are you missing an “r”?

Mads Naeraa

Among other things, yes!
(But that still doesn’t explain Elo’s weird statement.)

Lemon Next to the Pie

It’s an Australian conservative trope. As in there are ‘leaners’ and ‘lifters’. It was meant to describe those in society who don’t contribute much in the way of tax dollars and therefore ‘lean’ on the system. As opposed to lifters who do contribute.

In more simple terms, they are describing the mining industry, which sponges large subsidies from the government, and those whose taxes pay for those subsidies through their taxes and/or lack of access to services that a resource rich country could provide.

Chief Hot stuff

Aussies deserve more everything!!

Lemon Next to the Pie

Yeah, we do mate. When it comes out of the ground, it should be paying for a lot more. You know, like they do in UAE. Oil comes out of the sand, the companies make a good living out of it and the government takes a cut too. Seems better than Gina, Clive and Forrest getting all the subsidised by the taxpayer profits, non?

Chief Hot stuff

I’d be more concerned about the data miners, paying no tax, employing nobody, telling you how to live, think, hiding truth, rigging elections, sucking everyone dry of any individualism.
But yes, Australians really need more free shit let’s get it off people who pay royalties, taxes, payroll, people who took risks, most went broke, few made it, let’s get their shit.

Owen Wright's Brains

jesus

Lemon Next to the Pie

Well, for a start, I can only assume you’re talking about the bobbleheads from Sky/Fox. regarding telling us how to live, think, hiding truth. The rigged elections are coming up zeroes given that a) the elections have been overseen by Trump’s people, who said they were the most transparent they have ever been, and b) out of 10 cases of election fraud that have made it to court so far, none have presented any evidence of any fraud occurring. Seems they are upset the grift is almost over.

The mining companies don’t pay taxes, and they’re subsidised by us, the taxpayers, to ensure their products are affordable. Let alone the fact that they employ substantially fewer Australians that other industries that don’t get tax breaks or subsidies.

Chief Hot stuff

Youre just upset you didnt get a watch, can you imagine the nerve to suggest election interference?
What insolence!!

Lemon Next to the Pie

Haven’t got time to look at it anyway. And about election interference; imagine making the accusations but not being able to present any evidence? I mean, that would look like you were just making shit up and yelling ‘Fake news’.

Chief Hot stuff

Yeah, Ive had 4 years of no evidence. And you are upset over a couple of weeks of it.

Lemon Next to the Pie

Ha! I think you have that bit confused. I’m enjoying the past couple of weeks of watching the obese turtle in the sun flailing with no evidence. Or should I more rightfully say; Finding some repost of a story on one of his more favoured ‘news/entertainment’ sources from some twerp making up a story about election fraud, retweeting it, and then getting upset that it doesn’t count as evidence in a real court. (Current score is 20 legal challenges lost). I guess that is the problem with “fake news”.

Chief Hot stuff

What about the failed Impeachment for electoral rigging.
Selective memory there buddy

Lemon Next to the Pie

Yeah, you’re right. That cancels out the desperate ravings of a deluded old fool, grifting for donations to fight voter fraud, (that when you read the fine print, admit they will be used to pay election debt if less than $8000), while having lost 20 of them in a row.

Anyway, the failed impeachment, basically failed given that the Republicans controlled the Senate, and didn’t allow any subpoenas or witnesses to testify, so not much of a surprise. And difficult to call it a tribute to innocence after the House Inquiry (a bi-partisan group) found that Trump withheld military aid, (and a visit to the White House!), in order to induce the Ukraine president to announce an inquiry into Joe Biden and a discredited theory that the Ukraine (and not the Ruskis) that were behind the 2016 political interference.

Sorry the reply took a while. I was going through the memory banks trying to decipher which of Trump’s election rigging ‘fake newses’ you were referring to.

It’s actually reminiscent of the Joh trial.

Chief Hot stuff

You’re Trying too hard.
If you need that many words your struggling.
Wont be long, just hang in there. You got this!!

Chief Hot stuff
Lemon Next to the Pie

OK, you got me. They’re taxes were only subsidised by 33%. Mea culpa. Thanks for the evidence.

Chief Hot stuff

Yay
Another win for the good guys!

James Bickerton

Remember when there were battlers and tall poppies ? It is not that long ago …..
Remember when they told us that privatization would make everything run smoother and make it cheaper ….?
Power , Telephone etc ….ha ha
Imagine you had a business owned by the nation , where every household had only one phone …… why would one think it was a good idea to sell it in a rush , ( you can only sell it once ) , knowing that in a few years down the track , that every household would have a personal computer , wifi , live streaming , and 1 smart phone per person .etc etc ….. I am no Adam Smith but it just doesn’t make sense …..

Jimmy the Saint

No one talks corporate doublespeak bullshit quite like an American WSL employee!
