Rumor: President Donald J. Trump considering borrowing page from world’s greatest surfer Kelly Slater’s playbook, announce 2024 campaign on inauguration day!

Shade.

The much ballyhooed 2020 United States Presidential election did not disappoint. An early strong showing from incumbent Donald J. Trump evaporated in the following days as challenger Joe Biden picked up overwhelming mail-in ballot support. Charges of fraud and fixing were levied. Rudy Giuliani etc.

Now, one month on, Trump has not conceded and rumors are floating out of Washington D.C. that, not only will the president not attend the Biden inauguration, he may even announce his 2024 campaign on that very day.

Per NBC News:

President Donald Trump is discussing the possibility of announcing a campaign to retake the White House in 2024 on Inauguration Day and skipping the swearing-in of his successor, according to three people familiar with the discussions.

There is “preliminary planning” underway for a Jan. 20 event to kick off a new Trump bid, the people familiar with the discussions said, though it’s possible the president could make the announcement earlier as no final decisions have been made.

Etc.

Etc.

And shades of the greatest shade thrower of all time.

Our own 11x World Champion Kelly Slater.

But who could ever forget when the plucky li’l plumber, Adriano de Souza, won his own hard-earned world title, 5 years ago? Oh he worked so hard, struggled so much, but when he went to look for congratulatory hugs there were none to be had because everyone was clutching his or her cell phone with two hands, staring at just released images of a miraculous barrel reeling off in Lemoore, California.

Oh, we all know, now, that Kelly Slater’s Surf Ranch is a magnificent bore but back then it was absolutely something and positively enough for everyone, man or woman, to forget the name Adriano de Souza ever existed.

Exactly what Trump is allegedly planning on doing to Biden.

Learn from the best, I suppose.

11x U.S. President Donald J. Trump.

Michael Flynn’s lie detector test?

Nope, Tesla for the last week.

The 3000 shares my friend paid (3000 X $370) for on March 18 are worth (3000 x $600 x 5) = $9,000,000 whenever TSLA kisses $600.

I don’t think the readers here could push it much higher, do you?

Easy money right now.

Buy 100 shares at $450 in the morning, sell 100 shares at $500 in the afternoon, make $5000 off a $45,000 bet is better than 10% in a day.

And TSLA regularly jumps $50 in a day, often.

Easy money.

Chief Hot stuff

Sure
I’ll just use my bitcoin profits.

Hippy

Didn’t Musk tell investors earlier this week to expect a haircut soon?

commenter

No he said if they don’t get more careful about costs the stock could take a hit. But TSLA is expected to jump like 23% when it gets listed on the S&P 500 and some big brokerage just upped the price to like $780 or something.

Goldman Sachs and they predict Tesla will be selling 20 million cars a year. If they can produce that many.

https://electrek.co/2020/12…

This reckons the stock will go as high as $7000, which is possible.

https://capital.com/tesla-s…

Apple has split 7 times and if it had never split, it would be $28,000 a share.

I’ve said it before and I’ll keep saying it: Once you drive a Tesla the future is crystal clear: stinkpots are going to go the way of the dodo and the bookstore and movie theaters.

And print.

SectionSB

…”if they can produce that many”. If the chinese dont undercut prices with better cars. If people can afford to fix them when then they break. Which they are starting to do, as more miles get driven on them. Im all for solar powered stuff though, not coal plants nor nuclear…..just need more efficient cells, make roof tiles out of them, or roads.

commenter

The price on Chinese cars is already very low. I think you can buy an electric car there for like $8,000. But the tech is not nearly as good as a Tesla.

They are years ahead of everyone else. And that makes them valuable.

Those ching chong Chinamen know a good thing when they see one.

As for Teslas breaking. Living in Malibu you get a little glimpse of the future because people here have money and they drive whatever they want and they drive Teslas.

I’ve shamed at least three Malibu gazillionaires into scrapping their ostentation stinkpots and buying Teslas.

And they have.

And I see them and ask them how they like them and they love them.

And when they do break you can either fix it with a software upgrade or the Tesla techs come to your house and do house calls.

They’re trouble free.

These people are never going back to stinkpots.

SectionSB

yeah I see em cito, one of their engineers visits the house once in awhile, hes just a kid, always brings a cool car.
IMHO .as long as his rockets dont blow up the brand is good for now.
ps electricity and salty coastal climates? We shall see. Least you dont have to worry about the radiator blowing on a San Fernando summer day! (I wonder how much juice the air conditioner uses on a day like that, stuck at Winnetka?)

edit to add: went to the Tesla forum for answer. Common sense and engineering say best you have full charge on a hot day with a long trip. up to 35% miliage lost IF you are hauling ass with all the AC running.
Slow down, open the windows and you make it back to the charging station or your house. Man those guys love to argue about their cars, makes Beach Grit seem like a lesson in courtesy. haha Wish I just pop an electric motor in my cheezy Xbox (car), without all the other stuff that tesla puts in those cars. Just the basics.

commenter

Malibu people never go to the valley. They have their people do it. So it’s not an issue.

Astrophysicien

They send you in your stink pot?

commenter

No I have people.

I try never to leave this place although tomorrow night we’re rolling in a fancy Mercedes with multi-colored interior lights and comfy seats driven by the Moroccan chick I’m helping get into Harvard Kennedy School.

We’re gonna admire the Christmas lights on Sunset and then go to Pinks.

I’m gonna get me a polish sausage Reuben – that’s polish sausage + sauerkraut + pastrami.

First time I went to Pinks was with John Milius if I may name-drop again. This is when he was working on Flight of the Intruder at Paramount.

Pinks is as LA as LA gets.

My DAD used to go there as a kid, that’s how old that place is.

Curious to see what the line is like in the middle of a pandemic that Los Angeles is taking pretty seriously.

Takes a year off your life every time you eat one, but whatever.

SectionSB

haha they arent the only people with teslas you know? You might want to get out a bit more. Malibu peeps gotta go to the valley to keep their porn people hon the payroll. People are concerned about mileage. Factoid. I ‘m thnking the hyperloop tho, cool idea.

commenter

Mileage?

The S Plaid will have 1100 horsepower, 0 to 60 in under two seconds, 200 MPH and a 520+ mile range.

1100 horespower. That’s ridiculous.

Mileage will improve ever year.

There was one guy in Malibu I was aware of who produced porn.

I think his compound burned up in the Woolsey Fire.

commenter

Wow drove from Malibu to Pink’s last night in a talking Mercedes driven by a gal from Morocco who was texting and taking videos the whole way and driving too fast and scaring the children. Was hoping to see Christmas lights along Sunset Boulevard but there were almost none – all Jewish people, or Christmas spirit crushed by Covid.

Sunset Boulevard was empty of people and the truest sign of the apcoalypse is there were only four people in line at Pinks’s.

Raced through Rodeo Drive and there was no one there either.

Came home and was reminded why I like Malibu so much – an island of rural undensity only a few miles from the stinky old city.

Barrelled

Pretty sure a Trump will be running in 2024 but its not going to be DJT Sr. I’m guessing it’s Ivanka. Can’t wait to see Otto drooling over that.

And I’m curious why Otto demands that people say something good about Biden without mentioning Trump when Trump entire presidential existence relies upon the fact that Obama is black and the US is a deeply racist country. In addition, Trump spent his entire Presidency talking about Obama and Hillary. Seems a bit ironic to demand a positive claim about Biden when you so heavily support Trump and this administration.

Hippy

They all conveniently don’t remember the BUsh either… as if that disaster never happened.

So the million dollar question is, will the RNC allow Donald to speak at the next convention or will he be ghosted like the Bush?

Barrelled

The Bush following and support was nothing like this. There is no perfect President, they all make mistakes and none have ever been liked by all. But the Trumper thing is fucking creepy, the only thing I can compare it to is a religious cult where the leader can do no wrong in their eyes. Now, Otto will go the route of he never said Trump was perfect but, he has not and does not accept any negative associated with his leader. I simply don’t get it.

Otto

I’ve criticized Trump’s tweeting habits. Otherwise, I agree with his policies. There’s no reason for me to make up criticism just to satisfy the likes of you.

?uzzled

It seemed to me that Trump lacked policies. His re-election platform briefly said “repeal and replace Obamacare” which he failed to do with a majority in the House and Senate, then he stopped presenting any policies at all. The majority of the things that he did while in office were firing cabinet members, appointing judges, and ruling by tweeting reactions to what he saw on Fox News.
What policies?

Otto

Stemming the flow of illegal immigrants, strongarming Mexico to assist under threat of tariffs, and Mexico has stepped up their game;
Negotiating better trade deals;
Getting out of Paris Climate Accord which is a disaster for US businesses, yet let’s China keep polluting;
Iran kept under control instead of Obama appeasement policy;
Increased NATO country GDP% contributions;
Relieved US Corporations from crushing EPA regulations;
Curbed corporate abuse of H1B visa foreign workers program, benefitting college grads;
Took ISIS more serious than Obama, dismantling them in Iraq;
Increased military defense sales to Taiwan, who are.going to need it soon;
Increased military sales to Ukraine, thereby affording them better defense capabilities against Russia;
Changed Obama’s crazy ROE’s for US Troops;
Increased defense spending;
Tax cuts that benefitted middle income earners;
Etc etc

Barrelled

But you had to say Obama didn’t you?

Otto

Dude, Obama just released Part 1 of a 2 fucking Part memoir. The guy wants to be in the conversation. If he just went the fuck away I wouldn’t have to bring him up.

Barrelled

Well, he is promoting a book. And I don’t think anyone WANTS to be a part of the conversation more than Trump.

I wanted to see if you could. You obviously can’t.
Shut the fuck up about the US being deeply racist. What a bunch of horseshit. Racists exist everywhere but saying the US is deeply racist is so fucking dishonest.

Barrelled

Apparently I touched a soft spot. I do feel it’s a pretty racist country. Not necessarily California but in the middle of the country, yes. Just my opinion, which I think I’m entitled to and don’t need to shut the fuck up. Why does that bother you so much?

Chief Hot stuff

Takes one to know one

Barrelled

Oh for fucks sake POME, you got your own problems with Denis the Menace running the show in your homeland. You should focus more on that and less on our politics.

Chief Hot stuff

I think I’ll just keep doing what I want to do.

Barrelled

Good plan

Otto

You’re entitled to your opinions, but you think you’re entitled to speak for me. Saying the US is deeply racist is fucked up and shows a general disdain for the country that has given you so much opportunity. I don’t care for people that think that way. The fact that you say that middle America is nothing but “pretty racist” is a cheap generalization too often employed by liberal coast dwellers. America is a great country but all you want to do is trash it, just like Obama on his world apology tour. Fuck that.

Barrelled

Why do you repeatedly elevate what I say by adding to what I said. I never said or implied that middle America is nothing but racist. If you don’t understand that the Midwest and South are far different than CA, part of that being the way racism is dealt with, than there is no conversation. I have no disdain for this country in anyway whatsoever. I do have disdain for anyone who tries to divide a country that doesn’t need that division. That is where we have lived for the past 4 years. If nothing else, we can hope that the next administration tries to mend what was just destroyed in terms of dividing the people of this country.

And why the fuck you feel the need to bring up Obama? Hillary next?

Hippy

reflex barrelled. reflex. they have nothing but reaction.

Consider this, the GOP spent 7 years whinging about the ACA. Suddenly in total power, they had the power to repeal, their holy grail.

Problem was, in 7 years of outrage and drama, none of them had considered the replacement…. just the repeal.

Failures to govern, all the republicans want is business leverage. Governance is not of interest to them.

commenter

America is racist, are you kidding? Where do you live?

American cities are divided by race and cops keep shooting and killing black people despite all the riots and protests.

I don’t dislike black people, I think everybody should own one.

But to say America isn’t racist is to indulge yourself in a canard.

Do you not have cable or something?

You seem to have contradicted yourself a few times in that paragraph Ben.

Hippy

World apology tour?

Otto, Obama was too conservative for actual liberals. He always pandered to your side to create some sort of cooperation, but the republicans pledged to obstruct. Not to work, to obstruct work. Every thing he brought to the table was a concession and the liberal base was discouraged. He was an opposing parties wet dream… always begging for acceptance on increasingly center right policy.

The only answer for your hatred is race… unless you can explain yourself more thoroughly. The tan president unleashed the xtian hypocrites thinly hidden racism and they became hysterical.

Otto

You got a lot of nerve you little fuck. You rant and rave calling me a racist, words that if spoken to me in person i promise you would be met with you being bloodied up right well. Fuck you Hippy and your bullshit talk here.

OttoDon’tSurf

“…doth protest too much, me thinks.”

Barrelled

I have to agree with Otto at bit here Hip in terms of calling him racist. Though a large portion of Trump’s base are racist, I don’t it fair to be labelling Otto a racist unless you know him personally. I’d say many people would have his same reaction after being labelled as a racist. That said, pretty typical reaction from Trump supporters to resort to violent threats. Sad on both fronts.

JohnsKnees

Based on Otto’s past comments I think it is perfectly fine to call him a racist.

Barrelled

I haven’t seen the blatant racist thing from Otto. He appears very conservative based on his comments but not sure I see the racism in there. I could very well be wrong though. Ben and Bexy, on the other hand, are a whole different story.

JohnsKnees

Might I suggest the comments in the latest Matt Biolas article.

Otto

And what comments would you be referring to ya coward?

JohnsKnees

Your BLM comments would be a good start, amongst others.

Otto

Try again coward.

JohnsKnees

You literally said us vs them….and how am I a coward?

Otto

I oppose the organization BLM. They advocate Marxist ideology, promote the dismantling of America, push for the destruction of the nuclear family, advocate defunding the police which according to most recent stats in Minneapolis only results in skyrocketing violent crime rates, and uses force and intimidation as evidenced by their tactics with restaurant goers to force people to agree with their ideology. They created an environment where you’re either with them or against them. Fuck them. They created the “us vs. them” environment. I oppose what they stand for and don’t tell me they stand for the rights of black people because that’s a load of crap. They don’t care about black people. And as for you, when I oppose the organization BLM’s bullshit agenda, you retreat to the tired democrat position and call me a racist. That makes you a coward. A weakling unwilling to op[pose my challenge, a coward that retreats to calling me a racist. Yes, you’re a coward, in every sense of the word.

JohnsKnees

I call a spade a spade, and a racist a racist. It has nothing to do with being on the right or the left, and everything to do with the words you have written in these comment sections. Racist.

Barrelled

Obviously I don’t know you Otto but this comment is below you from what I’ve read. JK is baiting you and you’re biting. The “coward” stuff makes you look angry and ignorant (and you’ve shown with your intellectual comments, you’re not ignorant).

Dung beetle

When you said to me “people like you should be wiped off the face of the earth” and humanity would be better for it.
Or the multiple times you’ve called for civil war.
You are definitely one angry and violent motherfucker. That tracks well with racism in trump world.

Chief Hot stuff

Biden is the biggest racist in Washington, which translates to anyone who voted for him also being a racist heap of shit.

Barrelled

That’s a bit of a stretch there POME. If you are going to call the guy “the biggest racist in Washington” would be nice to hear the reason of why other than “because you called Trump a racist”.

Hippy

The tan president exposed the racism simmering. The republican party relies on division as a tool. It bothers them so much Barrelled because your take is honest.

FL Skunk Ape

100% – it’s one of the main reasons I voted against trump. In fact the racist asshole trump retweeted in the Villages yelling ‘white power’ – my friend and neighbor two doors down worked with that guy down in Miami and said that guy is exactly as protrayed in the vid. Retired Firefighters. Racism is alive and well – trump made it even worse.

FL Skunk Ape

Yeah Yeah Yeah California has a homeless problem.

Do you know why?

Because just as England’s Transportation laws of the early 1700s turned Virginia and Georgia – and later Australia – into penal colonies for all of the United Kingdom’s drunks and vagrants and thieves and highwaymen and prostitutes and debtors and writers and mentally ill and other f*** ups so is the United States using California and the west coast as a penal colony for all their homeless and vagrants and drug addicts and thieves and other f*** ups.

Drive across country into the red States and you know what you don’t see much of?

Homeless people.

They all end up out here where the days are short and the nights are long.

JohnsKnees

A simpler explanation would be that its warmer here, but that would have prevented you from showing your knowledge of the early 1700s.

commenter

Getting transported to Australia was Gnar. I

In chains across the Atlantic to Brazil then back across the Atlantic under the Cape of Good Hope and hooking into the Roaring 40s under Australia then turning left and heading up to Sydney.

Total time around 18 months although that got quicker.

But not much quicker.

In chains and pining for the fjords the whole time.

I’ve wondered how many people deliberately abandoned the the United Kingdom for a place that was sunny and had food.

I also wonder how many Transportees dared to take the trip back once they were liberated.

JohnsKnees

Cool story bro.

commenter

Not for the transportees it wasn’t. Although all of that might explain why Derek and Nick and Derek and them are so…..

https://uploads.disquscdn.c…

JohnsKnees

I don’t think you understand what overrated means but enjoy your temporary gains.

Not only that, Merrill Lynch hasn’t updated its price target since November and even then they maintained a HOLD rating at a price of $500.

Your graph shows a 2% increase over a weeks period, not exactly massive gains there bud.

commenter

I don’t think you understand what overrated means

Rated or valued too highly. I dont think most people have the brains or sophistication or vision to appreciate how important Tesla is.

It is to the future of motor vehicles what Apple was to personal computers.

But with a bigger impact.

Apple merely changed the world. Tesla is trying to save it.

but enjoy your temporary gains.

I have mentioned my friend who has made a “temporary gain” of $8 million since mid-March? On a $1 million invesment = 3000 x $370.

You don’t get it, but you aren’t alone, and it don’t matter.

Not only that, Merrill Lynch hasn’t updated its price target since November and even then they maintained a HOLD rating at a price of $500.

It was Goldman Sachs and they pegged it up to $780 in the next 12 months.

I’ll bet it’s there in six months or less. The S&P announcement is supposed to kick it 23% alone.

Before the split Tesla was doing regular $50 to $100 jumps from Friday to Monday.

The smart money and the smart people understand that Tesla is an evolutionary/revolutionary company.

Your graph shows a 2% increase over a weeks period, not exactly massive gains there bud.

If you’re daytrading you can make some dough on a stock that fluctuates $50+ every couple of days.

And how about a 7.5X increase since March 18?

JohnsKnees

We have lots of Homeless in Myrtle Beach, SC which is super red. I think that people follow their dreams to the coast and it doesn’t always work out. They settle into homelessness instead of returning to the inland towns where they originated.

commenter

Really in Myrtle Beach? Well you could also argue the homeless drift to the coast and get stuck there because they kinna go nae further?

The homless deal in Waikiki was shocking when I was there a few years ago.

They all were forced to leave Waikiki under a program called “compassionate displacement” and they ended up in Kaka’ako.

I was with a South African fotografista who said the homeless camps looked like Soweto.

It’s a problem indeed.

Otto

The liberals in Cali have sure turned homelessness into quite the business venture. With as many “non-profits” as there are “combating” homelessness, it’s amazing how little the financial resources granted and donated actually trickle down to the homeless.

commenter

Oh there’s tons of money trickling down to the homeless.

Santa Cruz County spends something like $17 million a year.

But how can you help people who don’t want to help themselves?

At some point, personal responsibility has to kick in.

And if it doesn’t… no amount of money is going to rehabilitate these folks.

The homeless of Santa Cruz are hardcore and drugs are the main problem.

That’s why the English started Transporting people.

They gave up on them and instead of all those executions and flooding Bridewell, they just shipped them to the New World and let them fend for themselves.

Silvio Berlasconi was a champ at that. t-RUMP has used a lot of this playbook. In Italy the statute of limitations includes the time of the trial, so if the accused is in trial and the statute runs out, he is free. I don’t think the timing of the unveiling of the wave was his decision to make anyway.

Now if only Kelly would invent a machine to make me 22 again.

I’d be all over that thing.

You don’t realize until you see it in the flesh how damned looooooong that wave is.

Like taking off at the tip of the Santa Cruz Wharf and kicking out past Rivermouth point.

With a barrel section in front of the Casino and another barrel section in front of the Wild Mouse (RIP)

How’s the meth going around Malibu now? Get your hands on any good clean shards lately?

This week it’s smack. Good to mix it up. Super Fly is playing on the PA right now, coincidentally.

Has anyone been addictively watching The Crown by the way?

Really really good television.

I started with season 4 and I was watching Margaret Thatcher and I’m thinking who is that? Who is that?

It was Gillian Anderson but I didn’t recognize her.

And I suspect the guy who played Bob Hawke wasn’t Australian.

He had kind of a funky Australian accent.

Almost as bad as that dude at the end of the original Point Break. “We’ll get him when he comes back in!”

The show is very well written and lavish. They spend $10 million dollars an episode on that show.

It’s fictionalize but still really interesting if you read between the lines and do your research.

You come out of its sympathetic for Queen Elizabeth: ” she’s a good Sheila Bruce and not at all stuck-up.”

And Diana.

And even Charles.

The Royal Family is a shitty system that fails to adapt to changing times and turns everything this s***.

Which makes it easy to understand why Prince Harry grabbed his chick and bolted to Montecito.

Knowing what I do of Oahu and the Hawaiian Islands I have to wonder how are they dealing with no tourism.

The numbers have gone from 30,000 visitors a day to 1,000.

I heard Chart House is closed for good.

When I was in Hawaii economic times were pretty good and it was still all kind of desperate.

Can’t even imagine what it’s like now.

Huli Opu

30,000 visitors a day.
Try to imagine close to a million clueless tourists rampaging throughout your tiny home every month with an ignorant entitlement and a hilarious expectation of compliant and gracious hosts.
Sucking the tourist titty is an addiction not easily weaned away from. But tourism primarily benefits the corporate profiteer and has only subjugated locals with slave wages and insanely inflated costs of living.
It’s quite the conundrum. We love to hate tourists, and tourism, yet no part of our economy and population has been untouched by the economic downturn. Recently arrived tourists are quickly realizing that the old status quo is no more. Respect and deference is the new order.
Joey Cabell did have a great run with Chart House but that old paradigm of restaurants has ended. The margins were always slim and if not for alcohol and beverage sales most would have gone belly up long ago.
Tipping is an embarrassing anachronism and food service in the USA has long needed reinventing.
Jamaica Osorio, assistant professor of Native Hawaiian and indigenous politics at the University of Hawaii has been vocal about her disdain for tourists:
“We aren’t your hosts,” she said Oct. 15 in a widely shared tweet. “Hawaii is still closed. Go home haole,” she wrote. No one should be vacationing during a pandemic, she said in an interview: “This is not a time for travel and exploration.”
That goes double for the WSL. Uku billionaires appropriating premier Hawaiian surf spots for the gain of a few and to the detriment of the Hawaiian surfing public without any tangible reinvestment into the host community can’t be tolerated here.
WSL’s ungrateful return during the pandemic – hysterically overblown or not – is regarded as a slap in the face to Hawaii.
That said, If Pipe and Honolua are epic with blood feuds and grudge matches galore, that just might save this site from the bleating ramblings of old surf dogs like me. If the wahine step up and don’t choke at Honolua and the video coverage is exemplary with multiple drones and numerous video perspectives then what the hey?

Thanks for these insights. Worthy of an article, actually.

Greebnurt Hurkurmurgurt

Is the Harbor Pub downstairs from the Chart House still in business?
It’s a bar, so it could be closed due to Covid rules. But they serve food, so they might be able to stay afloat due to that fact. I want their Crab Benedict to still be an option when I’m on Oahu.

channelbottom

That’s great news. I hope Hawaii can come up with another myriad of income streams. Tourism is such a poisoned chalice.

Chart houses closed up and down California… long time ago.

Brains behind it were John Creed (very talented surfer too) and he told me he was retiring in the early 2000’s.

Loved the salad bar and the Teriyaki Ono.

Prime Rib was meh.

Greebnurt Hurkurmurgurt

That chart house near Bowls was the only independent one. Not owned by the group that owned the other Chart Houses. I believe it used to be with them, but then due to business reasons it became its own entity, but could still keep the name. It was a special place, with great late night happy hour food deals and bartenders.

30,000 visitors a day.

That’s what it WAS. Tourism was worth like $43 million a day a few years ago but with that money spigot turned off, I worry.

Try to imagine close to a million clueless tourists rampaging throughout your tiny home every month with an ignorant entitlement and a hilarious expectation of compliant and gracious hosts.

Well the shame of it is, there was a Golden Age of Hawaiian tourism, through the first half of the 20th Century and some say into the 60s and even the 70s.

But the time when it was a couple of days on the Lurline or a sketchy airplane ride, when the Beach Boys were mostly Hawaiian, when the aloha was real.

When going to Hawaii was going back in time to a place that was still exotic, relaxed.

That existed.

In fact check out this link for Trunk It and you will see Hawaii from 1906 to World War II when it all seemed pretty nice – relaxed.

Good soundtrack: Ellington, Elvis, Hawaiian noises.

Sucking the tourist titty is an addiction not easily weaned away from. But tourism primarily benefits the corporate profiteer and has only subjugated locals with slave wages and insanely inflated costs of living.

That’s what I saw. Too white. Too expensive. Too crowded. Too much need.

I call Oahu The Angry Island.

The Golden Years turned to copper or some metaphor like that. I think at one time there was Agent Smith’s equilibrium between wages and cost of living, but not no more.

What nature laid down makes Hawaii the easiest place on the planet to get by: food, weather, shower in waterfalls. Easy, but it’s not easy.

It’s quite the conundrum. We love to hate tourists, and tourism, yet no part of our economy and population has been untouched by the economic downturn.

Except maybe the military. They pump a lot of money into the Hawaiian economy as well.

My friend Karen said the big difference she noticed is Waimea Bay is quieter.

The tourist kids and families all squeal, but the local families are quiet.

Unless they’re beating up the tourist kids.

Recently arrived tourists are quickly realizing that the old status quo is no more. Respect and deference is the new order.

Wasn’t it always? How so?

Joey Cabell did have a great run with Chart House but that old paradigm of restaurants has ended. The margins were always slim and if not for alcohol and beverage sales most would have gone belly up long ago.

Wailana Cafe then Chart House.

What’s next? Shangri La goes AirBnB?

Harbor Pub?

Tipping is an embarrassing anachronism and food service in the USA has long needed reinventing.

Oh I think the servers like getting tipped. Money in pocket at the end of the day.

Jamaica Osorio, assistant professor of Native Hawaiian and indigenous politics at the University of Hawaii has been vocal about her disdain for tourists: “We aren’t your hosts,” she said Oct. 15 in a widely shared tweet. “Hawaii is still closed. Go home haole,” she wrote. No one should be vacationing during a pandemic, she said in an interview: “This is not a time for travel and exploration.”

Grumpy but maybe right.

That goes double for the WSL. Uku billionaires appropriating premier Hawaiian surf spots for the gain of a few and to the detriment of the Hawaiian surfing public without any tangible reinvestment into the host community can’t be tolerated here.

Well the contests are a shot in the arm to the local economy aren’t they? I’ll bet Ted’s likes it, and the food trucks, and the rental houses.

WSL’s ungrateful return during the pandemic – hysterically overblown or not – is regarded as a slap in the face to Hawaii.

By whom? And are Hawaiians and North Shore residents ever happy with anything? No contest: They gripe. Contest: They gripe.

I saw a clip of Stephanie Gilmore surfing Honolua. She makes it look good. She really is a very good surfer – man or woman. She’s got style and she’s fast.

Watch Trunk It. You’ll love it and might see some of your ancestors:

This is the Hawaii people want to experience, but it’s mostly gone.

Vegas is taking odds on whether Trump will show face at the inauguration.

Here’s hoping Fat Bastard pulls a Kanye West and grabs the Bible and tries to run off with it.

This inspires Obama and or Michelle to finally snap and tackle Jabba the Hutt and go flying off the stage and fall on Henry Kissinger and/or Colin Powell.

And then it’s on for young and old. The Civil War begins.

Trump can say whatever he wants on the day of the inauguration.

He just won’t be president when he says it and we can all rejoice.

I also spend a lot of time arguing with all these California Sucks! proles.

Nattering nabobs of negativism who claim that there’s this Mass Exodus of people and businesses from California.

I say they’re not exodizing fast enough but here’s a fun fact. The population of California has increased from 15.7 million to around forty million since 1960.

That means the population of California has increased 1100 people a day every day for 60 years.

Gee! California’s water shortages and power outages and a High Cost of Living and homelessness.

Why ever for?
