The Oceanside surfer and former world number eighteen, Mike Lambresi, who nearly died one month ago after falling while trying to snatch the perfect angle for an Instagram photo, has revealed the shocking aftermath of the accident.
In an Instagram story and with words pasted over a photo of the pretty San Diego vista he was trying to snatch when he fell, Lambresi writes, “In the middle of the worst night since my return hospital last Tuesday. I can’t make more of these… I’ve never ever thought seriously about choosing to amputate a limb but at this point my left foot is getting serious consideration. Crazy just seeing it as I write it. All I want is a little relief from the agony. To top it off the combo of drugs has me waking from nightmares so real I can feel them deep down inside and they scare the shit out of me…”
After the accident Lambresi, who turns fifty-eight this year, posted gruesome photos of the injury; images so disturbing Instagram had to place a “sensitive content” warning over ‘em.
“Lost my left heel and did a pretty job on right leg and foot also. Wheelchair for the next month and more surgeries to come for skin grafts etc,” wrote Lambresi.

Fame and chasing the tour never appealed to Lambresi.

The real tragedy is that the photo he traded his foot for isn’t even that great.
How did his foot get so mauled by falling, stumbling, whatever?
So falling onto rocks is not safe, but it doesn’t make your ankle hamburger.

Looks like a heavy rock might have rolled over it. Ran from the federales from the jacuzzi above there once. Figured going straight to the ocean was best course. Facing forward, climbed down two rocks and fell forward landed hard on hip and arm. Went back to San Diego the next morn past same fed at gate. Cabrillo hospital got a kick out of the story.
a weird kind of vertigo can happen when using a smartphone to take a picture, especially something with a little movement like the ocean, couple that with balancing on a rock and you can see how you could take a tumble…. you’re seeing what’s moving on a relatively large view area of the screen, but your body and brain can’t put that info together with the conflicting visual from outside the screen

That’s a really good point about the smartphone vertigo/ equilibrium distraction from filming or snapping and walking.
Absolutely. I’ve seen people doing selfies almost falling over or even over cliffs.
This is basically the argument why the metaverse will not live up to Zuckerberg’s vision. Obviously, the problem is far worse with VR goggles, so people can become disoriented even sitting in a chair because of the disconnect between what they see and what their bodies feel. Good luck to Mike.
I hope he makes it. Pain clouds judgement and once you cut a foot off they don’t spontaneously respawn.
Get medical advice bloke, 2nd and third even 4th opinions before you do something that will effect everyday of the rest your life!

So… this jackass seriously injures himself trying to get a photo for IG, posts about it on IG, and then is back on IG to whine about the aftermath. It’s a really sad metaphor for what we’re becoming as a society.
Suck it up and deal with your injury like a man, in private, Mike. And FFS, try to learn a valuable lesson from the incident.
Well hopefully, others will also learn from just reading this.
Praying God gives him a good recovery and good health again, and more common sense.

the technological liberation of photography is really to blame…when we used film we planned our fotos because film and film processing is expensive, digital photography made everyone a photographer and the social media platforms only provided a cloud based storage facility to identify dumbfucks.
