Why do Brasileiros curse and threaten?
Born and raised in sunny Rio de Janeiro, I’ve been cursing since I could talk and being a Flamengo supporter, you learn to say many wonderful profanities to the referee’s mother at any given chance.
Like Italians, we used our hands a lot too when cursing, it makes our threats even more effective.
Not sure about it, but my guess is the first words you learn in any language are those bad words.
We believe you can’t really trust someone who don’t curse, nor the ones who don’t drink.
So, why do we go nuts on social?

I genuinely wonder what would happen if a bunch of 200 Aussies or Seppos congregated on the beach at this event, blaring “Land Down Under” or “Sweet Home Alabama” on repeat while waving flags and booing any surfer not from their homeland.
Because that is what Brazilians do at every other tour stop. And I don’t think they’d like their reflection if the mirror was placed in the sand at their own event. Would probably start a riot quicker than a properly scored wave.

Nothing like the look of a freshly done Brazilian.
I used to live in Lake Tahoe, where in the winters the big casinos would import a bunch of attractive 21-25 year old Brazilian women to work in the restaurants and nightclubs on temporary work visas.
Without fail, all of the ones I knew tried to get knocked up by and/or hitched to American guys in the few months that they were in the country, and a lot of them were successful – mostly to average or even kinda loser-ish guys. None of the women seemed to want to go back to Brazil for good, including the ones who had boyfriends or families there.
I always thought that was weird and that Brazil must have a pretty fucked up society in general if it’s women are that desperate to escape while their men are busy whining endlessly about nonsense like surf contest judging and soccer nonsense.
One would think those women, that are ‘exported’ to foreign casinos and nightclubs, are not representative of an entire country.
And all they want is a ticket out of a fucked-up country, which is the legitimate aspiration of most of the world’s migrants – all the while carrying out essential tasks that locals believe are beneath them i.e. hanging around losers and eventually having sex with them.

It’s an amazing country with wonderful people, and of course some societal ills left over from the days of colonialism. The Portuguese were already an empire in decline as far as Euro-colonial empires go. So I’d say that it’s true that some of Brazil’s post-colonial ills are ramped up to a higher degree than those of the former Spanish or English colonies of the New World. A shit hole it most assuredly is NOT. In terms of vibe and culture, I’d assuredly rather live there than in California if I could make the same living as I can in the States. I’d invite any and all Seppos and Aussies to go there and try to straight-faced-ly that you wouldn’t feel the same way. It is a rad place.
