World Surf League appears to troll Bethany Hamilton, posts official “men’s championship tour rankings” after Pro Pipeline as 1) Carissa Moore, 2) Tyler Wright, 3) Lakey Peterson and so on!

You can't script this!

The World Surf League is known for many things included, but not limited to, hosting professional surfing competitions, employing Joe Turpel, being owned by Harvey Weinstein pal Dirk Ziff, having a “Chief of Sport” etc. Generally not included in that list is “having a sense of humor” though it appears one might be blossoming in the aftermath of Bethany Hamilton-gate.

As you know, the world’s best known surfer took to Instagram, less than a week ago, to decry a change in World Surf League policy allowing for transgender women to compete at the very highest level. Hamilton’s impassioned questioning about why the move was done in secrecy, if any of the tour’s current surfers have been consulted etc. has since gone viral with mainstream headlines picking it up and progressive TikTokers fighting back by enlisting sharks as allies.

Culture World War III.

The League, though, has been deathly silent and I took that as rabid petrification amongst proudly awake executives who didn’t know if they should sacrifice women or other women. But could I have been wrong?

Might Santa Monica have been stealthily crafting the most subtle joke ever?

For hours ago, 22 at time of writing, the official WSL Twitter account tweeted the “Men’s Championship Tour Rankings after the #BillabongProPipeline” as 1) Carissa Moore, 2) Tyler Wright, 3) Lakey Peterson etc. etc. etc.

Ha!

No?

David Lee Scales and I discussed the Hamilton v. WSL business, anyhow, on our weekly chat that went on for a surprisingly long time. I think you just might find as humorous as Jessi Miley-Dyer, Erik Logan and gang.

I don’t know who that gang is and also take it back.

Nothing is as funny.

Listen here.

When will we get to see 2x champ Tyler Wright battle sisters Michelle and Owena for the women’s world title?

We’ve waited far too long for this.

Obviously wsl had nothing to say in its defense of the really bad, bend over and tale it up the ass, move they are making to the woke corporate oligarchy. It will be interesting to see them go the way of Disney. Woke didn’t work out for their bank account too well. The good news is. The pro surfing market will be open for anyone looking to take over. Maybe Elon Musk will start a new league?

Thrashin’ was my favorite role, but Goonies really launched my career long before I helped popularize perineum sunning. I’m just hoping the WSL will give the grumpiest locals 100% full time priority to make competitive surfing more authentic.

“Cultural Marxism”

Although similarities with the Nazi propaganda term “Cultural Bolshevism” have been noted, the contemporary conspiracy theory originated in the United States during the 1990s.
Originally found only on the far-right political fringe, the term began to enter mainstream discourse in the 2010s and is now found globally.[7] The conspiracy theory of a Marxist culture war is promoted by right-wing politicians, fundamentalist religious leaders, political commentators in mainstream print and television media, and white supremacist terrorists,[8] and has been described as “a foundational element of the alt-right worldview”.[9] Scholarly analysis of the conspiracy theory has concluded that it has no basis in fact.

Every few months I stop by and try to listen. Generally turn it off when the poddy goes into that broken record “the WSL is doing everything wrong, and we know exactly how to fix it” schtick. Years of that bs and you guys still have an audience, impressive. Even the people calling in are on board, threatening for the 1000 time that they’ve had it with the WSL. Was actually kind of surprised to hear Chas pull his own teeth and try to be objective. He even Watched a day pro surfing that was alright. Anyway The problem isn’t the WSL, it’s that pro surfing itself is eternally flawed. Conditions can make or break a contest. To get permits you need to commit to a specific time frame. The new Vans Triple Crown skirts that eternal flaw in pro surfing (committing to a time frame for permits) by having people submit footage so they don’t need permits, doesn’t create a better product, but still allows motivates some surfers to try and get paid. Same with the wave pool, finally able to control the swell and blah, doesn’t work. The problem ain’t the WSL, pro surfing doesn’t lend itself to a scheduled live television broadcast. The problem is people think there’s some profitable height out there to be had, that contests can be core, etc. The fact that the waves sucked for a lot of the once Pipemasters- is surfing to it’s core. The waves suck sometimes, that is surfing. Hell that’s part of the addictive draw. Always Wanting more. Surfer’s want the WSL to control the shit none of us can. Yep, surfing sucks sometimes and that’s on showcase in contests more than anywhere. But Chas was right, it was cool to see what JJF and Medina could do at crappy pipe. It was predictable Kelly wouldn’t do good either, cuz he doesn’t surf crappy pipe. He probably won’t do well at Sunset either. Would an outside audience give a crap about any of that. Probably not. But it’s still entertaining, hard to make profitable though. The debate about finals day shows how we hold competitive surfing on a pedestal. As if there’s one true way to crown a world champ. Really? Were every one of Slater’s titles pure, untarnished, perfectly judged, etc? F it. Competitive surfing should sell out. A one day title is an easier way to sell out. Selling out is competitive surfings highest calling. Competitive surfing is one element of surfing that’s not worth trying to hold sacred cuz it ain’t (even if there are transcendent moments). Fun to watch though. Look at all the different formats for Pipe contests this year. The only thing that mattered were the conditions and who surfed. Difficult/imperfect conditions made JJF’s 9.93 memorable. So Always scoring perfect conditions might not be the answer either.

What does any of this have to do with a guy using KT tape to hold his dick into a thong bikini and surfing with the women?

Listen to the podcast. That stuff is in the second half. They actually cover it pretty well. I’m just talking about the first half of the podcast and all the previous years of them spewing the same crap, whining about the WSL.

Pelicans are the long-borders of the animal beach scene— calmly cruising above the crest of a wave, no wasted movements, smooth laid-back style, soul surfer type.

Sea gulls—are more like a rowdy gremmie at the beach—steal your lunch too when you’re not looking—always hanging out at the beach looking for a free hand out.
But still cool…they dig the beach scene—their main hang-out.

What’s funny is that they changed Aunt Jamima’s picture because it represented negative stereotypes yet I see A LOT of black women and girls wearing that same old style head covering.

Isn’t that crazy?

Bit of a long story but I was talking to a friend on Friday who was a top tier junior cyclist back in the late ’80’ and early ’90’s.

Some of his peers turned pro and a few of them were very very successful but all doped.

He’s very thankful that he never got involved in that program because he sees the toll its taken on them mentally and physically.
