“Y’all just namaste’d this place into rubble!”
The three-time world surfing champion Joel “Tinkerbell” Tudor has blamed the bulldozing of Moroccan fishing village Tifnit on surf camps, yoga retreats and online magazines.
In a missive posted on Instagram earlier today Tudor wrote,
“All you kooks with your yoga retreats, surf camps and online magazines that have blown this place (Tifnit) up since blowvid… I hope you’re happy now… y’all just namaste’d this place into rubble soon to be high-end rentals.”
And,
“Social media is a disease. And now they’re all signing petitions and sharing on social media. Been there ten years ago, since then everyone absolutely social media raped that place down. Now they’re very surprised that the government solid it to the big trust funds and hotel chains… bunch of famous longboarders, too, with their retreats making thousands without partnering with any locals. Shame.”
On the 6th, the director of equipment for the province of Chtouka Aït Baha, Mohamed Zouhair, disseminates information, demanding the restoration of illegally built homes to their original condition, within five days. Stupor, collapse and incomprehension of the approximately 200 more or less regular inhabitants of the village, mainly fishermen, some of whose families have lived there for generations. The heart tight, some flee Tifnit with their meager possessions. Defenders of the village, mainly foreigners, launched a petition and organized a demonstration. Calls to the authorities go unheeded. On the 25th, no voluntary demolition having taken place, the mechanical excavators came into action and destroyed everything, but really everything, in their path (see above video Michel Terrier). On December 28, they covered the rubble accumulated by the traxes with earth. Tifnit has completely disappeared. Nothing remains of the small town described as the only one of its kind to have survived in Morocco.

Looking at the pic of Joel I would not be shocked seeing him scurry out of one of the shacks like Golum as the bulldozers moved in
Same thing happened in the early 70′ s at a location just North of Jacksonville beach Fla. It was a great hang out for the youth and some of the better waves on the East side of Florida .
Back then you could drive in the beach and st low tide there would be two & three lanes of parked cars. It had gotten that popular.
Guessing because of the alcohol and drug issues popping up it started to get urbanized. They made parking spots then hutches and kept increasing the modernization that it was no longer natural and became an even bigger attraction – $$.
It was no longer a fun place for youth and became a tourist attraction .
For once, I agree with Tudor.

As a fellow colonizers with ancestors who likely owned slaves, we should celebrate this grumpy cunt contradickting himself days after Hawai’i day of siege and independence but a month or so back, typing this from his house in Pupukea or wherever, on the evils of social media via social media. I mean, maybe Slater really believes what he says, but if so he needs a 5 year detox from affluent California society.
I have nothing but respect for Joel Tudor’s complete lack of self awareness. While it may be abrasive to some he never would have killed HP longboarding singlehanded without it.
But I have a funny Joel Tudor story.
Before I could drive in the mid to late 90’s I was at the lowers pickup off Basilone with a buddy waiting for my dad to pick us up. If you’ve never surfed Lowers the closest access point is a 10 min walk but has no parking. The actual parking lot is a lot farther. It’s why people are so mad about e bikes because the hassle limits crowds.
But to leave the lowers dropoff spot you have to drive a mile in the wrong direction because there is a metal divider preventing u turns. This metal divider extends the whole way except for a narrow pedestrian crosswalk that is right at the lowers dropoff spot.
So like I said we were waiting at the drop off. Joel Tudor pulls up and maybe he picked a board/something up from another guy waiting, don’t really remember. Instead of continuing down the road he drives his pickup truck straight through the narrow break in the median from the pedestrian crosswalk. Did it perfectly clean too with inches to spare on both sides. But it’s not like he was slow about it. He absolutely ripped through that thing.
Rules are made to be broken.
Surfers used to embrace that.

Could it be that Joel is the one that ruined everywhere he has surfed? Seems kinda easy to prove. Name an over crowded spot that has become a rich hipster play ground that Joel didn’t surf and expose before it was blown out. I can’t.

Until fast Eddie and the like are in jail I very much can’t see Billy paying for his past and maybe current.
I don’t see what that’s got to do with pressing charges if there’s multiple allegations.
North Shore is still “why you wana call da cops”. There is some much corruption here in hawaii and it is magnified on the north shore. All these criminals have been covering up for each other for so long that the pile of dirt is too big for one guy to go down. Like the mob in the 80’s the feds will have to come in and take them all down starting at the top. From what I hear multiple women have come forward and nothing has been done.

I don’t know what it is about long boarders. Either mellow and chill or complete pricks — there is no in-between. At least in the US, have the prick variety on both coasts. One of the few things in life that make me wish hell wasn’t pure fantasy.
