Let’s talk automobiles for just one moment, here. Are you a car fan? Have, in mind, what you would immediately scoop up if you are lucky enough to win the Surfival League and its mega-bucks? Is it a futuristic e-machine replete with all computer bells and whistles? Something nostalgic, a dream buggy from your youth, say that you slavered over most uncontrollably?
Well, only dunces and dingbats would not have the German automaker Porsche in their top five, at the very least. The Stuttgart, Germany-based vehicle maker has a fascinating history, all tied up with the Third Realm, but came out of the war with more engineering genius coupled with eye-poppingly good design.
Take the 911, for example. An icon from the moment it rolled off the production line in the early 1960s. Fast and gorgeous, the car caused a sensation, each iteration becoming a collector’s item including the 1972 911 Carrera R 2.7.
Divine.
Maybe even perfect.
And it is here where surfing re-enters the picture. In order to celebrate the machine, Porsche collaborated with Costa Mesa, California-based Almond surfboards to shape a corresponding wave riding vehicle.
According to Stupid Dope:
Each surfboard is priced at $3,000 and limited to just 72 pieces, a nod to the model year of the Carrera RS 2.7. The boards are not only functional wave riders but instant collectibles, appealing to surfers and car lovers alike. Designed for trim-speed and clean lines on the wave, the board echoes the balance, poise, and agility that made the RS 2.7 a standout both on the road and racetrack.
According to Almond’s website, the boards are 6 ft. winged swallowtail single fins and can be had in three “period-correct” Porsche colorways.
Yowza.

Barina that eventually got turfed when it ticked over 500K clicks and everything got a bit wobbly. Not because the likelihood of not dying in an accident was slim to non-existent but because it was very good for reverse handbrake turns and there was just enough room inside to poke the nose over the shoulder of the passenger seat. Roof racks are a pain in the arse.
That ’72 Carrera is worth somewhere between $750k to $1mm so I suspect few who can afford that car actually surf. I’ve yet to see a Porsche Almond in the wild and this is their 2nd run of the Porsche boards…but I do have the single fins/air cooled hat and it surfs really well

but the beast was our C4 Vette ZR1 prototype. Porsche had it in the hole shot but once the Vette got second gear it would shake the doors off a Porsche.
Chas should have a lifted ’08 or ’09 Cayenne with stickers all over the back window including a Vandy Daddy sticker.

I don’t have my ear sufficiently to the ground these days to understand precisely why so many guys have a bit of beef with Griffin at Almond beyond him marketing to VALs, but it certainly makes sense when you see shit like this
It is a great co-branding effort yet I didn’t see a single Almond on the roof rack of the Porsches cruising from Lido to Crystal Cove early this morning. BUT I did notice a Harley Ingleby Tolhurst on a Porsche.

Jordy got completely ripped of with the best wave and surfing in R16 heat only geting a 6.67. Even ends with an air reverae 540 make onto complete rocks getting cutup…total commitment. Should have been an 8.25 minimum. Biggest judge blunder or deliberation of 2025.
Jordy only surfing to 85% isn’t a judging error.
A little too confident of his beloved home break me thinks.
If that were the case…yes…but no that wave surfed at 105% with end move commitment make un matched.
Nahhhh love Jordy, want him in yellow, he’s in my Fantasy team. But I was screaming at the TV for him to step it up a notch. That air was an incomplete too, so that helps justify the score.

I had the middle bench with 2 seats instead captains chairs like later models. I took the middle bench out and could fit me and 3 people with all our boards.
Six of us. Mum dad in the front. me, esky and brother in the middle, twin sisters in the back. Sydney to Perth and back TWICE (nullabor was unsealed) Melb to Cairns during catastrophic flooding. Dad driving completely plastered entire time.

And the board, (like Mapski said), a sting rip-off, (by Almond), but the Almond one has the wide-point too far up towards the nose and a too narrow tail.

Went to the website where they are selling the almond/porche boards. They have video of guys riding them. Things a complete dog.
That’s alright, then they’re not for you. I find the people who drive VW Type 2s to be pretty lame, but I realize it’s all about taste and preference. If you like to cruise around and get nowhere quickly (not a bad thing) then a Type 2 is the vehicle for you. Porsche sports cars, especially of this vintage and especially the Carrera RS 2.7, are cars for those who love the experience of driving. They’re light, they’re nimble, they have engaging transmissions and communicative steering, and that flat 6 just pulls and pulls and pulls. I agree a lot of the people buying new Porsche SUVs tend to be weenies, but anyone who buys and drives a classic is definitely not.
