It is the day after Thanksgiving, in America, the weather crisp on the way to cold. Families are munching on leftovers whilst looking forward to Christmas and its coziness. Chestnuts roasting by an open fire, Jack Frost nipping at nose etc. I suppose it’s the same sort of vibe in Canada and Europe except with no thanks given.
Australia, though, faces a very different situation. Namely, the turning of spring into summer and hordes ready to crash the beach. The trouble? Many happy mates don’t have proper swimming skills and end up drowning.
Oh, the national surf lifesavers do their very best, having rescued over 715,000 souls since 1907. Enough men, women and children to fill the Gold Coast – Tweed Heads. Very fine work but how to lessen drownings altogether?
Enter Cody Simpson
The very hunky songbird, 28, is the new face of Surf Lifesaving Australia’s new “beach passport” program, a complimentary training program that apparently takes only fifteen minutes. Cody Simpson, who grew up on the aforementioned Gold Coast and is a phenomenal swimmer, declared, “Growing up on the Gold Coast, the beach has always been my second home and surf lifesavers are the unsung heroes who keep us all safe.”
Qantas, attempting to sweeten the already hot honey pot, turned to bribery. Taking to social media, the airline shared:
Even the best swimmers need to do their Beach Passport… We’ve enlisted @codysimpson to help us champion beach safety this Summer in partnership with @slsaustralia.
The Beach Passport is a complimentary online training resource that provides essential water safety education, and this Summer it will be enhanced with a new rip current identification feature to help beachgoers avoid these hazards.
Frequent Flyers based in Australia will receive 150 @qantaspoints for completing their Beach Passport, with the chance for one lucky beachgoer to win 1 million Qantas Points*.
It takes roughly 100,000 Qantas Points to fly from Sydney to Los Angeles one way.
