“Horrendous scenes”
A pall hangs over a rain-soaked Sydney after a surfer as mauled by a shark at Manly Beach, the third shark attack in 26 hours.
Yesterday, a kid was attacked on both legs by a big bull shark while doin’ what kids do around here, take on the twenty-foot drop at a harbour beach rock outcrop, ten minutes drive from Bondi.
The kid’s pal who dived in to drag him away from the shark was praised on social media by his grandparent.
“The boy who went into the water was my grandson. I’m so proud of his bravery and I’m praying for the recovery of his mate who is still in a critical condition and the group of friends who were with him. All of them are traumatised by the event.”
And, earlier today, an eleven-year-old grom was attacked by a shark a few hundred metres south of where Mercury Psillakis was fatally killed by a Great White shark in September.
In the latest attack, a couple of clicks from where the kid’s board was bitten, a surfer was dragged unconscious and with bite wounds on his leg from the water at North Steyne, and needed CPR on the beach.
Paramedics treated the surfer, who is in his twenties, on the beach before he was rushed to Royal North Shore hozzy.
Every Northside beach was closed in response.

Would underwater sonar, the type that fucks with the navigation abilities of sea-going mammals , work on deterring these angry fish?
Set up a simple but loud sonar at each break. Side effect would be that ALL wildlife would be affected. The fisherfolk on the rocks would probably not be impressed.
But , theoretically, would it work? One at each major surf break ?

You would think Australia, Sydney in particular, could learn something from South Africa, but evidently not –

Durban is different to east Coast of Australia……..being way bigger with more people……so a 4-5′ monster bull shark bit the boys board…….hmm call that a shark!
What part of “zero fatal shark attacks” do you not understand?
