Drill, baby, drill.
Any surfer who has ever visited the Golden State has certainly seen large oil rigs offshore. Drilling first began way back in 1896 up Santa Barbara way. Los Angeles and Long Beach soon jumped into the action, followed by Ventura and Orange counties. All was fine and well until 1969 when a spill drenched Santa Barbara’s precious coastline with Texas Tea.
Afterward, California halted new offshore leases to oil companies in the strip it controls (three miles out to sea) and the federal government severely restricted drilling beyond that.
Current U.S. President Donald J. Trump, however, has decided to go a new way and has grand plans to make California, and I suppose the entire west coast, Saudi Arabia again by selling up to 34 offshore leases covering around 1.27 billion acres.
Interior Secretary Doug Burgum, very excited, declared, “The Biden administration slammed the brakes on offshore oil and gas leasing and crippled the long-term pipeline of America’s offshore production. By moving forward with the development of a robust, forward-thinking leasing plan, we are ensuring that America’s offshore industry stays strong, our workers stay employed, and our nation remains energy dominant for decades to come.”
Drill, baby, drill!
Critics, though, are not so jazzed. Elliott Wright, a spokesperson for the Surfrider Foundation, told SF Gate, “The Department of the Interior didn’t provide any opportunity from the public. They snuck this out just before Thanksgiving and were hoping it’d get buried in the news cycle, and with all that’s been happening, that’s kind of the case.”
The famous actor Ted Danson threw his hefty weight behind Team No Drilling shared, “Californians know all too well the horrific price of oil spills,. From Santa Barbara in 1969 to Huntington Beach in 2021 to today, our state continues to suffer from offshore drilling’s destructive legacy. When I talk to people from both political parties, everyone agrees that the risk of expanded offshore drilling is too high for California’s coastline, fisheries, wildlife, communities and local economies. We’ve stopped this before, and we can do it again.”

No biggie. The US is clearly fucked anyway
It’s my understanding that no matter where you pump crude from it still has be brought ashore somewhere to refine. I believe California has made that difficult, if not impossible.
The mid-terms can’t come fast enough.
Nah A C wins this one with “balloon knot”
Btw Cunty, I tried out another new word I learned from you on mrs puss….’population paste’. She actually liked that one. Keep em coming brother.
Since I am into adding value to the conversation and want to elaborate I truly think Tidal power could easily be the future. Hydroelectric is a century old plus proven tech and as an example, Washington State was well on it’s way to making itself less fossil dependent until the droughts set in, but there is easily enough tidal energy moving through the Sound to power the whole coastal population and then some. Tidal energy has more potential by orders of magnitude than most conventional ways now and harnessing it can be done with methods long ago proven to be feasible.
The tide is not vulnerable to climate changes and is a limitless source of untapped energy. To think it couldn’t be harnessed is beyond comprehension.
Every channel, every sound, every gap between an Island. Evenly distributed with no monopoly on the resource.
The potential is huge.
And again utilizing all sources of potential energy and having decentralized points of production as well as centralized ones would make the world a much better place.
Maybe I am yelling at clouds, but out of all the crazy shit I believe in, I believe the greatest source of power of them all is the power of a collective wave, and it can start with as little effort as the flapping of butterfly wings. And who knows, maybe someone reading this spreads it to those who expand on it, and so on and so on until the wave is unstoppable.
I know there are people here with influence and care enough.
Make BG matter!!!
Was in the Indian Ocean and our charter had a ridiculously large “surf” boat… meaning, all our gear was on the surf boat and it followed us everywhere. Say our charter was 90′, the surf, you know what, lets call it Locker was 30′. Not small and covered.
Anyhoos, we pull into a bay between two islands ,the tide is dropping and it looks fun, but we had come from good and I had voted against the move so tensions are aware. One of the voters to leave decides to prove the point of leaving perfection to test the new venue. The surf Locker is approx 50 yards away.
Dude jumps into the channel, strong swimmer and disappears in the current. Almost comical except the threat. Now the surf Locker has to rescue him, but they ain’t paying attention.
That channel between a right and left pass could power NYC
I will never forgive them for voting to leave
Never leave good waves, ever. Was he a goofy looking for lefts or vice versa?
bingo, 5 goofy’s voted while I surfed. They never even paddled the left.
That’s my regret. Could have shamed them paddling to the left and picking a few off. But I had no idea the itinerary was changing. Surreal that the itinerary was changing.
They could have left me with a towel and water and come back for me in three days.
Democracy on a boat is lame.
That’s why they have captains.
Hear Hear!
Maybe, but the ocean is a harsh place and one full of beauty. meanwhile almost every roof in the world just sits there empty facing the sun with no solar panels.
I understand about solar panels.
Every house/farm/streetlight could do well to have them, but they are not without their limitations.
Again multi faceted approach that involves all of it.
But in my view we should tapping into limitless power without throwing our hands up into the air because it is hard, because as humans we can do it, but only if you have the will.

How is Otto going to tongue Trumps sharted bumhole clean on this one?
Xox
No need. Got you in the bullpen getting warmed up. After all, you are the BG bumhole closer
You love that cretin raping what you think is your America, the dream is dead.
Xox
You sound butthurt. Donny turned down your advances, didn’t he?
Well, youe.bumhole fingering biz is probably not in risk of going under, under a ballsack
Not butthurt, just perplexed you still support a pedophile.
Xox
What are your feelings about Donny calling the Sheriff in 2006 regarding Epstein?
It’s so satisfying to see you try so hard.
I know you got feelings about me. It’s weird. But, whatever. You do weird you. So, since feelings are your lane of travel, what are your feelings about that doc release?
release the rest of the 2.5 m files!
A sooky tattle tale. What are your feelings about him refusing to release the unredacted files?
Xox
That was timed as conveniently as a 7/11 is placed.
not the sheriff but the Palm Beach Police Chief…….what do you think about epstein and , “his boys spending the day together in 2016?
Please. Its been said and I’ll say it again. IF the left had anything substantial on Trump they would’ve not only put it on national TV, it would’ve been put out in its entirety. I just can’t see why that is so hard to understand?
have you seen the actual photos from the files , groups of old men gathering around 20 young under 10 girls dressing them up like fairy’s…etc…..as there are still 2.5 m files to release…..the last batch…..trump says he’s never been to the island even though the flight log shows 8 times….liar!
So it’s not the entirety of the files , one does not have to go too far into the files to see the smoking guns……so lets release as promised/now court order the 2.5 m files!
Ow, its very disturbing. I even saw today that a couple X Navy seal guys were also mentioned. One of which was/is like mythical badass. I fail to remember the name. I for one would love to see them all burn. Not hating on one sicko more than the other. My point is still above the waterline. If they had it, collateral damage be damned, it would be front page fuel the jet stuff. At this juncture especially, with all the blatant tax dollar thieving going down from their side of the bilge. Seeing Trump go down in cuffs and being able to put their brand on it, Can you imagine the wealth? Im not referring to money either, pure unadulterated clout baby! That kinda stuff gives every little dick, big dick dreams! Trust me…it’d be out there!!
“sharted bumhole ” https://uploads.disquscdn.c…

In the database, I typed in the words ‘Trump,’ ‘Donald or Don’ and it came up with more than A MILLION* results.”
* “I obviously didn’t have the time to review each one, and I obviously cannot guarantee that every mention of a Donald is Donald Trump as opposed to some other Donald.”
Jamie Raskin acts super sane, all the time, and never says verifiably false shit. Ever.
Time will tell i guess, but is 36,000 mentions ok then i take it?
Did you see the doc release about Trump calling the Sheriff in 2006? What did you think of that?
2006.
How many years ago was that.
It was right as the investigation started. And then there’s the notes about what Trump said.
the call the whitehouse won’t or can’t verify happened?
what? It’s a DOJ file doc.
So, some docs are now more trustworthy than others?
did he call a sherriff 36,000 times?
you’re having a hard time accepting narrative slaughter. It’s okay, snuggle up to Dogsnuts, he’ll finger your bumhole for free.
hahaha, yeah, total slaughter.
so it’s true, a nervous laughter is in fact perceptible when delivered in text. go digure
What’s it like to be in a cult, Otto?
It’s great. Not a cult cults are the new rage. Or maybe their the old, ongoing rage. Probably the latter.
*they’re
Dear Otto, you’re pushing a rope up a hill my friend. Liberalism is a disease that has no cure. They’ve told the lie to such a degree that the truth simply doesn’t exist any longer. Logic and facts hold no water.
the problem is what your truth is based on?
the misinformation coming from this administration….is mind boggling…..
Coming from this administration is an unfair grouping. I’m of the opinion that they are all in it together and the whole “sides” charade is purposely done. Even the downright dirty pool personnel vitriol is all part of the show. There is an old dock joke that summarizes politicians. Here goes;
There once was a man from Nantucket, with a dick so long he could suck it. He said, with a grin, as he wiped off his chin, “If my ear were a cunt I could fuck it.”
The difference in a liberal and a conservative is the liberal would defend the ole joke (its his dick, his body, and his desire for his ear to be a cunt) and the conservative is repulsed…Facts.
I love how the title is why wind depends on oil then right in the beginning he says how they provide energy the power to the wells.
Seriously I would say you can’t make this shit up but seeing as how this is a fictional production you clearly can.
The only point I will concede is that the current turbines are dinosaur tech that could and should be redesigned.
But that bullshit about them not being efficient producers is laughable, and going by how many I saw in red states on my last road trip I would say that most mega level industries agree.
Well, if they’re off grid is it really that much power, especially considering how much wind howls through parts of Texas. It ain’t like that wind is that consistent everywhere.
I’m looking forward to reading Trump’s final rule on rolling back Obama’s greenhouse gas regulations.
The wind blows consistently strong enough through vast swaths of the country, and it doesn’t even need to blow that hard, and as a matter of fact too hard stops production.
The truth is they work, and if they didn’t they would have stopped building them a long time ago.
But as someone who understands the game a little what really holds us back is centralized power production that creates total dependency for a grid for energy transmission, which only exists because it provides a monopoly for energy companies who still suck the tit of taxpayer funded subsidies to profit off of us.
Small home based production with efficient technology not only reduces the dependency on those outdated systems but benefits them, as multiple points of production eases the pressure on restarting them in times when they shut down.
The whole centralized power thing is actually a national security risk, as people getting their grid pummeled in Ukraine are coming to understand. Small scale production works fine for many, and is a great safety net. I’ll bet your little doomsday compound utilizes some form of it.
Strong post! Just took a look around to see what my local provider receives – NextEra Energy (FPL’s corporate parent) has received a cumulative ~$3.99 billion in disclosed federal and state subsidies and tax rebates in the United States. This includes grants and tax credits associated with subsidiaries like FPL.
Imagine getting subsidized with taxpayer dollars so you can monopolize and maximize your profit on taxpaying citizens.
Where does it stop?
Sugar industry gets billions as well. Corporate socialism is alive and well. Yet you never hear a maga rail against that.

Somalis in MN could steal $3.99 Billion in just a couple years,
Uh huh.
Sure.
Is fraud denier worse, or better than election denier?
Love that Camper is reading you because he’s hiding.
Immigrants are not stealing money. They are scared to. You know who is stealing money, red states.
Fake news. You maga dorks stand for nothing and fall for everything.
Looking forward .
To see something about what Obama did … like 15 years ago.
That’s called looking behind.
Regulations are economy cripplers.
Seems like Tariffs are economy cripplers, but erratic management
It’s cheaper to just point a sheet of glass at the sun but that won’t make Trump’s donors money. Swamp was drained. Sure. Fuck MAGA.
No cloudy days in your world, eh?
maybe you just place more importance on some local habitats versus others. Oil rigs are great habitats. Ask any Gulf of America fisherman.
Once the CoreExit wears off…
and then? Thriving?
Not with anything worth a shit on a commercial level, but yeah some recreational guys can have a fun go of it.
But the same thing can be accomplished by sinking a few scrap ships in accessible areas.
To be sure the fisheries there got devestated, which is why most beachside restauarants have to substitute local shrimp for farmed crap from Asia.
You sure it wasn’t the Bubba Gump Shrimp fleet over fishing?
To a small degree, but Deepwater Horizon fucked shit up on a massive scale for many fisheries.
You know Otto I get why you are not into the thought of mandatory gay tuesdays, but if you are really a surfer you should understand why sticking oil wells up the ass of large coastal populations is wrong. At what point do you draw the line?
I’m cool with nuclear. Are you?
With newer tech and on a small scale I am okay.
But again the whole massive centralized production thing transmitted to the masses through vulnerable lines that need massive amounts of copper is our biggest flaw in becoming a true energy leader.
We should be utilizing all of it, and if we are really going to deregulate then that should apply to the small guy as well.
We are here debating on technology that only 30 years ago would have got you laughed at if you said this would be our reality.
George Jetson shit.
Yet our production of energy is more or less unchanged over 100 years time.
And to me if you really care about national security, independent energy capability as well as integrated systems should be a no brainer.
Again I feel you secretly understand this, as you can understand that your compound can only hold so much fuel and should that fuel become prohibitively expensive other options will get you through the zombie apocalypse.
And I should add that massive centralized production applies to wind and solar as well.
Small modular nuclear like what Oklo does is the future.
Nuclear is dependent on finite and monopolized elements.
Tidal harnessing is the future.
The work they’re doing off Orkney is definitely interesting, and promising, though seems limited to where it can be accomplished.
Bro. You’re not cool with much of anything. And definitely not cool.
It’s okay . Live with it.
My dog is cooler than you. Which means at least you got some cool going for you, cause my dog is super cool.
Deep water horizon isn’t as much to blame as catch shares are, (quota permits). I promise you, you’re out of your league on this one here. I’ll give you one guess as to who came up with the system…
You fish on that side?
Indeed I have. Believe me I tell you that the system in play is fixed. The game is rigged and the resource is simply used as a giant lever to move the money. They don’t give a shit about protecting anything but their bottom lines. Rules for thee, but not for me, and absolutely nothing be free! Subsidized fish farming at its finest and the thing that suffers the most is the resource itself.
You’re not really telling me anything I don’t already know.
Over regulating the most regulated fishing nation of them all for dubious science tends to sour the likes of ya.
That being said I’ve worked for some dirty motherfuckers.
And if you let a really dirty industry fuck shit up then you’re just giving the green light for them to go full regulator.
And as someone who got to see the gash on the Valdez when it was at drydock and had a parent who worked a little while for that industry I’m not as deep in the pool as you think I am.
No batteries to store the energy for when the clouds come? God you’re such an idiot some times. And maybe I just place more importance on a living ocean, and ice caps, and the future for our kids, than Exxon making more money.
This is some weird shit now.
They’ve given the green light for new drilling off the Florida Gulf Coast also and it’s such a terrible idea that even Ron Desantis, Mr MAGA is going to fight it because he knows an oil spill would devastate the tourism industry.
I mean Deepwater Horizon spill was not that long ago. Shit was washing up on our beaches for years and that’s the eastern side of the state. I get we have energy needs, but we have food needs too. And the ocean is unarguably one of our hugest sources of food that is highly sustainable if done correctly.
A spill like that in Northern California would be a massive disaster for the crab, otters salmon etc.
Until we stop using it, it has to come from somewhere.
Plenty of other places besides there.
Which is why your mom’s legs are always open.
That would be onshore drilling
Hahahaha fuck aye.
Xox
haha
California(Gavin Newsom) has outlawed oil drilling on private property, putting many small operations out of business and handing the reins to large corporate holdings. How does this play out for offshore drilling?
I remember the spill in Newps. They were rolling giant tampons on the beach to collect the oil.
It’s Mother Nature.
Even though you’re from Oregon I appreciate you bringing attention to this issue, cheers.
