Surfing’s rules and regulations have generally been an oral tradition, passed from mother to daughter, father to son, grouchy local to kook via either calm explanation or spitting invective. How to behave in the lineup learned thusly. The Covid-era surf participation boom eroded much etiquette, as adults came in without surfing parents and did not care what the grouchy local had to say and the aforementioned lineup a mess.
Well, a “Surfing Rules” sign posted at a beach then onto social media, in an attempt to clarify, is dividing the surf world, today.
It reads:
Surfing Rules
One wave = One rider
No shoulder hopping
Always respect the locals
NO DITCHING YOUR BOARD
Etc.
All sensible, no?
While some agreed, penning:
Anyone who has a problem with this? Should not consider Surfing or continue. Surfing, it’s not toxic, it’s not unfair. It is the way it is, and the way it’s gonna stay. Just look at any clips of crowded lineups in exotic places. And it’s a dangerous kook fest. Everyone on here, who is complaining follows rules at their job on the road. When they’re playing a game, all the sports, they play doesn’t always seem logical or fair. But those are the rules learn, Em, and prosper. Don’t learn em, get punished or just don’t play.

Love surfing – surf culture is unbearable! Everyone was a kook once … why can’t ‘locals’ or ‘pros’ support the people learning and why do they have to rip the beginner breaks and ruin it for beginner sby hogging all the waves.
Part of this is safety. Part of this is respect. Part of this is bs localism. Bet whoever wrote this sign doesn’t give a crap about giving every wave to locals when he travels.
Don’t believe in locals and I love helping beginners. No one owns the ocean.
Surfing is amazing. Surf culture however, is amazingly douchey.

That summer VC comes down to surf comps is SD and then onto the North Shore in ’78. He went berserk surfing Sunset bigger than I ever wanted. I choose to remember him in those early…more innocent years.

You can spread the Kiawe wood after the initial sear to create broader heat

Messed around with heaps of different methods and temps between 54C and 60C
Then blowtorching the sear or oven sear,
So much fucking around and time and vacuum sealing crap.
Never beats a campfire steak, especially a marinated one from the local butchers you can’t fuck up.
I wasted so money good steaks I reckon.
I can understand why restaurants have em bathed at each temp, then just a quick flash sear in a pan.
You do know, the Greeks “brined” the filets in olive oil and oregano, third day added lemon juice which broke the meat down and allowed penetration of the pepper
Save some “brine” for the grilling
Grill needs to be super hot. Brush with the “brine” every turn which should be constant, no grill lines. Just a melange of sear
Pull the steaks when their exterior is “punchy” and set them covered until they feel a bit heavier, your temp is now perfect.
I don’t suggest a sauce with a Mediterranean application. Kind of al dente and lemon slice at most… the steak has been cauterized in olive oil anyway

Watched it last night. It’s pretty worth the long hour and half. Some really good Pipe footage from recent seasons. In keeping with my pink titties badge, it does seem to be missing the archival footage that would have made it epic. They all speak pretty highly of Michael, Derek, Gerry, Bruce, Andy and such. It would have been pretty sweet to slip some footage of them in there and get some words from them. I’m sure its some licensing thing as this footage all looks to have been shot in the last season or two.
It would be hard to get some words out of Andy or Derek these days.

I’m not a west Aussie but I did live there a few years in the Margaret River area. Honestly, the forecast looks bad because it looks windy.
Normally it’s the afternoon onshore (Freo doctor) that fucks you up as the inland heats up and hot air rises, pulling the wind with it.
Forecast looks onshore even in the mornings. Lots of swell but shit wind. I wouldn’t hold my breath.
