Hot on the heels of BeachGrit’s missive earlier today where it was revealed Billabong, Quiksilver and others in the Surf Brand Alliance had donated $500 of clothing to flood victims, per person that is, and totalling hundreds of thousands of dollars, is news that Outerknown has donated an entire day’s takings, capped at 15k and excluding fees and taxes, to the Lahui Foundation.
Last month, our friends, family, and greater community in Hawai’i experienced a massive Kona Low storm system that wreaked havoc across the Hawaiian Islands, destroying homes and flooding entire communities. Many families’ homes are still unlivable or collapsed, and the community needs our help. It’s why for today only: we are donating 100% of proceeds up to $15K (excluding taxes & fees) to The Lāhui Foundation (@lahuifoundation), an organization on the front lines of helping flood victims on the North Shore and greater Hawaiian islands.
We’re moved by the grit, resilience, and connectivity we’ve seen within the tightly knit network of neighborhoods on the North Shore that are intrinsic to the fabric of surf culture in Hawai’i, and we can’t wait to share a session together soon.
An overwhelmingly positive response followed with 15k liking the post and another 230 sending it on. Kelly Slater, a noted philanthropist and activist, even dived below the line in response to adaptive surfer Colin Cook who asked if there might be a discount on offer for flood victims.
“Message me. I’ll sort it out,” replied Kelly.
Can you imagine the thrill of getting that sorta response in the comment pane?
It wasn’t entirely poz, howevs, with one follower writing:
“You’re a multi-million dollar company, can’t you make the $15k tax deductible donation no matter what your sales for the day total?”

Was lucky to be flying back from Costa via my job the other week and two punters were complaining about not being able to upgrade from the full flight Miami to my hometown. One was doing luxury construction, and the other needed a plumber for their 6 rental properties so asked the luxury guy what plumber to use. What human needs 6 houses?
