Calling Luke Cederman.
As every surf fan knows, the World Surf League’s Championship Tour is on stop for, which just so happens to be the New Zealand jewel Manu Bay. The window swung wide, yesterday morning, and surf fans around the globe got to see the the left-hander deliver knee high fatties. The forecast is horrible for the entire event and I wondered, as I half-watched part of one heat, how Luke Cederman feels about that.
The funnyman behind one of the greatest Instagram accounts out there, Raglan Surf Report, has become synonymous with the wave and was there, yesterday, taking it all in. Do you think he was sniggering, inside, while imaging surfers around the earth removing Manu Bay from bucket lists or did he have a pit in his stomach that as the wave’s stock goes, so does his career?
I thought about my own break, here, in Cardiff by the Sea, the place I paddle out rotely and wondered how I would feel if the world’s best surfers showed up and it was waist high and lumpy, like it was this morning. Part of me would be sniggering, sure, and glad that the hordes wouldn’t know how good it gets (shoulder high and chonky). Part of me would feel much shame, having everyone know that I chose to surf a stupid wave daily.
It’s a real conundrum.

I must be the luckiest person alive. The few times I have surfed Cardiff it was head high plus and super fun. Crowds were crazy though. Then I surfed swamis the next day and by comparison Cardiff seemed empty. I’ll take 6 foot Winchester bay any day though….can’t imagine growing up in Oregon and settling for SoCal. To each their own I guess.

I’m sure it would be fun to surf but when a wave makes the women surfers look worse, it’s pretty shit to watch.
I enjoyed it far more than the burgers at Bells or Margies.

OBSF has been more crowded than half the spots in San Diego ever since the ‘CT event here. Fuck that shit.

I think it played a big part. Obviously remote work meant mid-week got more crowded — even with people who’d been here for decades. But I think the ‘CT really blew up OB in the media, and people saw how good the waves are here. SF stopped being a novelty spot, and lots of people moved here to work remotely who wouldn’t have otherwise.
I could be wrong. But when I go to SoCal, I’m always shocked at how relatively uncrowded it is compared to clean, fun days at The Beach.
It sort of dovetailed at a time where social media and media in general were blowing up the spot so to speak too, no?

That’s exactly my thought watching them surf it. They make it look decent but, minus a few waves,pretty lackluster.
Manu Bay looked fun as shit to me yesterday- apart from that grim period around low tide.
Amd Medina still made that look rippable.
It’s really fun, along with Indies. It’s worth a visit. It does look like the WSL has been cursed by an entity that hates good > epic lefts though. First the sub par conditions at g-land during a prime window and then this forecast. The only consolation is it looks like we’re going to have a run of fun waves from the blocking high in the National Surfing Wonderland though.

pretty ordinary start to the season….for Jordy and 3/4 of the events.
Was the most consistent man on tour last year. Two wins and only one 17th.
The majority of us have to surf shit waves consistently to be fit for the good days, Jordy gets paid to do that, and all the fun shit around it and people telling him he is a legend, and its 12 weeks a year and 12 weeks there and back to each place, sounds fucking sweet to me, ,,,,,

Definitely wasn’t the best wave on offer but by the evening looked pretty fun. SC was cross fading with the piss and antibiotics but I know he’d have fun out there
the only answer is to embarrass itself. Tourism numbers are ridiculous and unsustainable. Better to be poor and have uncrowded surf, unless you’re going to be one of those getting rich off of the tourists.
Anyway, We had votes for Caity having the best style. For Lisa Andersen. And obviously Steph also had a pleasing style. But this video, that YouTube somehow recommended to me, reiterates that Alana had a very aesthetically pleasing style, even if she wasn’t ever going to test the top surfers on the tour. Whoever coached her made sure that they worked out all the stupid kinks that surfers get.

I’m talking about her style of surfing.
Also, she definitely did not have an average butt. If she had an average butt she wouldn’t have had more social media followers than every other surfer, male or female, in her time, close to 15 years ago. She had, for a white girl, a well above-average butt. But I wasn’t talking about that, in this particular case.
