How I could see myself flopping in the corner of a sexy late-night bar, coltish legs hanging out of the pink trunks, feet in white vinyl pop art boots.
A small break in transmission from the important news stories broken here on BeachGrit: the Great White attacks, fusillades fired across myriad online bows by Kelly Slater, beachfront real estate bargains and warranted attacks on the vulnerable adult learner surfer.
Today’s note to the reader concerns my recent foray into the public relations field.
The journalist’s email box rattles with PR notices offering trinkets and rags, everything from girlish dresses to Johnson’s Baby Powder, for review and publicity.
Rarely is my head turned, although the H20 John John headphones thrilled me for a while, as did a drink container company called Purist Collective did with Kelly Slater, although nothing like the collab between the heritage brand Birdwell and LA’s vintage-tweaked label Elwood.
What struck me, a soft pink pair of surf trunks, short naturally, a pair of longer camo trunks, a baby soft t-shirt and a sixties-styled beach towel, all with the, and even with my jaundiced eyes, the very desirable Birdwell label and trademark bold American flag.

Reader, how I could see myself flopping in the corner of a sexy late-night bar, my coltish legs hanging out of the pink trunks, feet in white vinyl pop art boots.
Eric Crane, an old pal became the CEO of Birdwell after steering other brands to glory, and when he heard I’d been chasing an Australian delivery, pressed the required buttons and, yessir, here I am, an overindulged child who has just helped himself to an extra piece of forbidden fudge.
And the best part? Limited stocks and the tee and pink trunks have sold out.
If you wanna get a piece and feel sexy again, camo trunks still hangin’ in there, towel, too.

birdwell was never soft, never sexy. they did have a small unexplained loyal fan base in the 70’s.
least comfortable surf trunk. ever,
Fastest drying though.
I suppose it’s possible some of you have not owned a pair of birdwells. Absolutely killer boardies, or should I say “trunks”. Have to break them in for a few wears but then they become amazingly soft and last forever. Only problem is you want to wear them everywhere but they only come with a gay little pocket for wax, which means you can’t fit car keys and wallet.
I love them.
Some guy out the back of Waikiki has a surf shop and does his own Collab with them. Basically birdwells with his shop logo sewn on. Do a beachgrit Collab with birdy Derek! I would wear them except of course Victorians only wear boardies on holiday.
A Ziggy Stardust beach dress code.
When is Rip Curl releasing the Sasha Jane “Chicks With Dicks” Colab Boardshort?
Camo is rarely a good look.
Don’t tell Longy that!!
… ‘flopping in the corner of a sexy late-night bar’ …’pink trunks, feet in white vinyl pop art boots.’
… ‘glory’ …‘buttons’ …’forbidden fudge’
Hmmmmmm?
Birdwell is owned by a private equity firm (masquerading as a “family” owned private investment corporation) based in Ohio.
Completely wrong. It was sold last year to the same company that owns Tori Richard, Ltd. & Kahala Sportswear. Its been owned by the same family since 1956 and it is based in Honolulu.
Diff Birdwell, apparently. Thanks!
I see the word Elwood and all I can think of is the Blues Brothers.

how tf are these shorts $160?
Hand made in the USA using 100% made in USA raw materials as well. Lifetime guarantee.
12% tariffs on all temu products plus $150 for a seppo to stitch on the label… made in america by Americans.
I found why Dez likes: gorilla man legs and arms meeting a very sudden absence of all body hair in the upper arms and torso. https://uploads.disquscdn.c…
And the guy can actually surf despite the washboard.
Looks like a young Longtom in the wild minus the giant floppy hat and the seppo board
I assume he’s bald and a ranga for some reason, like a mick Campbell but a touch more dignified. No basis for thinking so.
Kinda looks like a blond Scottish ranga.
From what I’ve seen Mick Campbell is a gentleman.
Saw him once at Turner’s in Yamba, 3 nooners all the way to the sand, sharp as ever.
He prefers the blue and orange camo for that true “in nature” look.
paid the deposit – board incoming!
https://uploads.disquscdn.c… What did you get? Waiting for a chance to pick this guy up.
7’0″ Syco.
I guess you’d call it a mini gun.
still feels like step-up territory.
Those things look like MC hammer pants if you cut them off at the knees.
atrocious cut and terrible camo pattern.
looks like bad Temu.
As opposed to good Temu?
gods gift- cut out the middle man.
Is that what foreskin is then?

Dirty backshots….
If only the featured back model had a tramp stamp with an arrow pointing down with words along the lines of “enter here” thereby enhancing the sexy aura.
I’m hoping our dear moderator NegsNuts has such a tatt?
Not Negs, he’s full on militant hetero. We need Negs back on BG as all are welcome. Right SC?
Sorry Picard but I make no comments about Negs. I unofficially signed a NDA
Do a collab back feature with Rivvia Project that says “19th hole”
I had to look up the brand. As a branding expert, in my delusional mind, they’ll need shorter surf shorts to pull off the 19th hole idea possibly with a zipper running down the back center line for access. Unless of course they want to focus on the golfer 19th hole drinking phenomena. If so they’ll need a short with a pocket on one side that is big enough to hold a beer and a small pocket on the other side to hold the coke bindle.
Make the inside of the pockets a stubble holder from recycled wetsuits
Turned on the news this morning to watch while eating brekkies. Whew! Bad idea.
RIP Glen Hansard, and also all the Palestinians being executed in the West Bank and Gaza, for filming the destruction of their homes. News stays off until late morning from now on.
Small batches of swag is the way to go. Guaranteed sellout and lots of buzz on the resellers market which is just free marketing.
bogs x deeks collab

“Can’t hide from the truth “
Bugs knows
Hey Derek, Is this Elwood the same skate rag company started by Sal Barbier circa late Ninetis? My daughter is digging the pink Birdies and baby soft t shirt but I will have to put that in her grandma’s shopping cart.
Can you get someone to send me a free wetsuit to review?
Good angle
With that insta page of yours I’m surprised you don’t get tonnes of free swag. You need to do a collab with the funniest kid in the neighbourhood and make a skit about needing a new wetsuit. Guaranteed 50k more followers if the skit is chucklelicious.
Doing Instagram influencer marketing would require paying what bill hicks would describe as a higher psychic cost than I could live with. At least with writing I’m producing my own capital
Got it. How much does your suit of choice cost, in your area, if you get it on sale?
Can get a need or project blank for $250, or usual price for brand name sales.
Latest suit a mid range O’Neill but it’s coming apart after 1.5 seasons of solid use.
Truly amazing how they fall apart. Only suit I ever bought was in 2001, a stiff, Rip Curl, hooded 5/4/3 and that thing was a tank. So well built.
I guess they figured out that they could enshitify their product once they were still warm and comfy.
Is Bill Hicks the guy in Aliens? Game over man, game o-ver!
‘Hey Vasquez, have you ever been mistaken for a man?’
‘No, have you?’
Council clean-up on now. I’ll keep my eye out for you.
You write on Insta? Why don’t you put some of your old stuff on here once it’s gone stale for the cool kids? Post it below the line.Any surf content appreciated.
Just stupid captions under old surf photos, anyone can look it up @@surfads (Disqus)
Pretty dumb marketing to use an American flag. That place is more fucked than here.
Hey at least the US hasn’t ruined their fisheries leading to more shark attacks. So chalk one up for the Seppos
All you need is a couple resident orcas to move in and start killing any cunty sharks lurking around. Seems to have worked wonders for the Saffas.

Orcas are so cuddly!
Haha and luckily their sharks love burgers as much as their people
I guess that is why Bogans live on average 5 years longer than fat Americans
It looks like you could take that patch off using a seam ripper. $160 is nutso.
