Billabong founder Gordon “Greasy” Merchant, 83, just bought a million-dollar V12 Lamborghini

You gotta love a man who ain’t content to die wondering. Gordon “Greasy” Merchant, who is eighty-three or close enough, has long grabbed life by the horns, as they say, building billion-dollar empires, constructing lavish beachfront compounds, fighting the tax man to the death and, as revealed by a Brisbane Lamborghini dealership, dropping almost a mill-and-a-half on a new Lambo.

At his monied peak in 2007, Gordon Merchant was worth around $907 million although he’s currently sitting on around half a billion, which makes the buy the equivalent of you and I putting a thousand bucks into a shiny new Lost or Merrick (Britt).

Gordon, a supremely fit example to us all, still shredding too, chose the the Lamborghini Revuelto ’cause why wouldn’t ya if you had 500 bricks in the bank?

The V12 hybrid is the biggest tech leap in the marque’s history. It pairs a naturally aspirated 6.5-litre V12 with three electric motors for a combined thousand horses. It hits 100km/h in 2.5 seconds and tops out beyond 350km/h, replacing the Aventador as the brand’s flagship and doing it with a plug-in system that still lets the V12 rev to 9,500rpm unassisted.

Spec wise, Gordo’s Lambo is finished in Verde Hydra, a deep, saturated green from Lamborghini’s Ad Personam bespoke palette, this one leans into the paint-to-sample culture that now defines how buyers spec these cars, no two exactly alike.

Inside, Terra Kedros, an earthy tan/terracotta leather, is a deliberate break from the usual black-and-carbon supercar interior, warming up a cabin that’s otherwise dominated by a trio of digital screens and a driver’s environment borrowed from Lamborghini’s fighter-jet design stylings.
