California surfers woke up extra sad, this Monday morning, a heaping spoonful of bummer stirred into an already bleak day. Monday, of course, already tough, and this particular one made tougher with the World Surf League’s decision to postpone the Lexus Trestles Pro for another day. The nonstop swell, from dear Hurricane Marie, has gone away with a bad forecast for the rest of the week. Gas prices make surf venturing wildly expensive and, worst of all, Zachary Levi has just leveled a devastating takedown on all surfers who call the Golden State home.
The c-rate star of the mid-2000s network comedy spy drama Chuck was appearing on Fox News Digital when he let his fist fly.
“I grew up in California. I love California. It is a failed state,” he said. “It is literally and figuratively on fire.”
Other failed states include Haiti, South Sudan and Somalia.
California surfers used to consider themselves the bee’s knees, looking down Zinka-coated noses at Florida surfers, French surfers and Australian surfers.
Oh how the mighty have fallen.

Ever since I started working in Hollywood and I saw how broken it all was, I felt very compelled by God to go build a better Hollywood — like a new United Artists kind of studio — where it’s owned and operated by the artists, where we can cut out all the middlemen, where we all can do really well, build a community.
And then not just a place to work. People can live there, and kids can go to school there. And we have an organic farm, and, like, all of the things that I think everybody really wants these days.
We look at the regular world around us, and we see it burning. And we’re like, ‘Can we do this better? I feel like we can do this better. So, that all culminated in nine years ago, me finding 75 acres outside of Austin, Texas, to buy, to develop, to turn into this magical kind of idea. That’s why I left.

California native. Moved off coast a deal ago. Still only 7 miles from surf but when you can sell for millions. Rent a place with pool and zero traffic I’d agree it’s a shit show. Further north no thanks. OC is like a fucking triple priced hell hole. I’ve been to Texas 4 times. It’s turning into CA ( with zero reasons to go to the coast) it is either hotter the hell 1 time with no power. Or cold as fuck ( both times the power was 3rd world at best) Austin is California just with shitier weather. You have Ca plate on your car you’re hated. So he’s right but as many Californians leave Texas after 2 years as move in. Wanna really see a shit show try Montana/idaho. They hate California transplants.

All the ridiculous taxes and regulations aside,
All you have to know about California is the public schools went from being the being tops in the USA to 37th. When adjusted for other factors (i.e. cost of living, per pupil spending) we’re close to the worst.
It’s a great state of you have money (aka livin’ the good life like Chas), and an awful place if you’re middle or lower class. And even worse if you’re more than 15 mins from the beach. Fresno? Bakersfield? El Cajon? Riverside? Apple Valley? Ridgecrest? Redding? These places are just plain gross and poor people practically go bankrupt over heating and cooling costs.
The final nail in the coffin for CA was the election of Scott Weiner (D) (born of Philadelphia, PA) who pushed the agenda of statewide increased density and eventually got his way. The cherry on top will be the passage of Prop 45 in November to basically ruin the environmental review process, thus allowing developers to fast track all their projects while trampling over the local community.
Right now the future of California is high density corporate-owned “luxury” apartment living without infrastructure upgrades. You think traffic is bad now? Hate your corporate landlord?Just wait.
Cardiff sucks now. 10-15 years ago was rad. Lived over 40 years with white water views but it’s now fucking lame. Encinitas/luecadia ( keep it funky stickers on Range Rovers) and the fuckin poser sprinter vans are gay as fuck. Cardiff is also home to the ugliest house on planet earth. If you’ve been there you’ve seen it. And the cost of owning became retarded. Fees/taxes/ADUS / zonie transplants and traffic. Try doing home from downtown La Jolla to Cardiff at 2:30-6pm. 2 hours to go 14 miles. If there’s a wreck ha. Then they widen a bridge on I 5. Takes like what felt like 10 years and it helped nothing. Throw in freeway noise/e bike dorks and a walking trail as crowded as a 4’ swell at swamiis. Cardiff is done. The fork got jamed in DEEP years ago. Only the posers who live there think it’s cool. Just look at their license plate frames.
