A great disturbance.
It has been a wild summer for California’s southern third. June opened a wild run of swell that, really, hasn’t quit. Day after day after day of mostly plus-sized surf pounding away. Such is the consistency that beaches are eroding at a record clip. Sunbathers, of course, bummed but surfers thrilled, though worry is starting to percolate.
The National Hurricane Center is keeping a close eye on a developing disturbance southwest of Mexico, dubbed Invest EP95, with environmental conditions favorable for further organization.
I.e. becoming a full blown hurricane that could hit the coast on Labor Day (Sept. 7).
KTLA weatherman Kaj Goldberg declared, “This is the disturbance that, if it does form and come together, could make its way right into Southern California about one week from today.”
Spaghetti models (see above), called such because the projections look like li’l noodles, are showing a slight possibility of a direct hit but better safe than sorry, no?
Southern California surfers, those born and raised on the west coast, are not used to hurricanes like our east coast sisters and brothers but the look/feel of hurricane preparation has always had a sexy edge. Bare chested men hammering sheets of plywood over windows, women in Daisy Dukes running to the grocery store to horde water, families sitting on the porch drinking sweet tea and watching the clouds roll in after depositing all the surfboards under the house and putting the goats in the kitchen.
East coast surfers, do you have any advice?

On September 25th, 1939 a tropical storm made landfall on San Pedro and caused mass flooding and destruction in L.A. and Orange counties. 1858 a hurricane hit San Diego and made life hard for the twelve people living there. Long overdue for another one.

Interestingly, Joel Tudor was also very funny when he appeared on Pinch. He was funny and cleared up that he and my Goat, Ke11y, get on just fine.

Yep. Its a big casino. He has only been chirpin about it since the covid bottom. Not a fan of talking or gloating about money…. unless I find a fiver on the street. But thats just me. Maybe I’m old school.

Don’t get me wrong, La Jolla is pretty nice but just too fucking crowded for me. Basically, once you go south of Oxnard its all LA to me.
Growing up on the Central Coast, we thought we were NorCal. After living north of the Golden Gate for years now, anything south of Big Sur just feels like LA to me. (please factor in that I’m exaggerating of course)

We are very open minded and non-xenophobic here but, considering only 1 hurricane (cyclone, typhoon, etc) has ever touched land in California, hurricane works just fine for use once in the last few hundred years.
Well, Santa Babs doesn’t have waves in summer (minus a couple little nooks that swell gets through to) so better to flush out the creeks and such now. Plus, our whites aren’t all mean cunty like yours. Ours tend to just swim past people and give em a little sniff, no biting.
Ours go bong hits instead of nose beers.
