Coolie Karen Joel Parkinson pockets $10.1 million cash in Snapper Rocks apartment switcharoo!

Joel and Monica Parkinson downsize from Mansion in the Sky to pied-a-terre with hefty financial repercussions!

As reported on these pages two months ago, the 2012 world surf champ, Joel Parkinson, “fast and acrobatic” in small waves and “cool-handed” when it got big, had listed his five-bedroom sub-penthouse overlooking Snapper Rocks with hopes of fifteen million dollars-plus.

Parkinson had bought the joint on level ten of Flow Residences at Rainbow Bay off the plan in 2020 for $6.84 million. The apartment spans almost six-thousand square feet and its balcony adds another forty-two hundred square feet. A real mansion in the sky, Delta Dawn style. You’ll remember Parkinson sold his riverfront Tweed Heads compound for a record-breaking $2.52 million to buy into developer Paul Gedoun’s exclusive Flow residences.

Parkinson’s house at 41 Crystal Waters Drive, Tweed Heads, five beds, three shitters, was bought in 2006 by the then twenty five year old for $1.1 million.

Anyway, as fate would play its hand, another owner in the Flow building had eyes for Parko’s Mansion in the Sky, tossed him the keys to his joint, a 241sqm half-floor apartment on level eight, plus ten million dollars meaning Joel and Mon could stay in situ and enjoy all the joys ten bricks in your account can deliver.

Gun agent  Kerry Pezet of Pezet Matheson did the matchmaking.

“It was the perfect match for two families whose lives had changed,” Pezet said. “Neither of them wanted to leave Flow. Joel and Monica wanted less space and the family in 801 needed more. Instead of either of them going to market, we swapped them within the building.”

Parkinson, who is forty five, earned the nickname Coolie Karen three years ago after a “wild Gold Coast pell-mell involving mud-sliding, tiktok, ageism and alleged hand-to-hand contact!”when he was at the centre of a “wild Gold Coast pell-mell involving mud-sliding, tiktok, ageism and alleged hand-to-hand contact!”

The crucial question here is, what would you do with the ten mill? Invest? But in what?

I’d buy a joint in Hossegor, Les Estagnots near my ol pal Reid Pinder, that’d take care of three, maybe a place at Paradise Cove alongside Sam George, another three, and spend the rest on a desert ranch with a mini Lochtefeld pool.

Some money would be kept aside for a pet dog, a horse, chickens and a deluxe air fryer. New sunglasses too.

And you?
