The weather, amirite? Hurricanes in California, heat waves in Washington, flooding in the Caribbean and zero waves all year on the World Surf League’s Championship Tour. While bloat, poor planning, bad windows, incompetence, falling in love with tourism boards and antiquated event structures could be blamed for the latter, the WSL’s very own Chief Strategist, Dave Prodan, has pointed his wizened finger at another culprit.
Climate change.
Taking to his very popular podcast The Lineup, which acts as a sort of right think propaganda machine for competitive professional surfing at its highest level, Prodan shared with guest Mitch Salazar that “uncommon weather phenomena on tour” led to baby swells during the entire 2023 season.
Dastardly.
But do you think the powers that be will take this into account for next year, paying attention to global warming, cooling, etc. and where waves might be and when or do you imagine that stops one through ten will be moved to Lemoore, California where it is always shoulder high and tubing (stop eleven remaining at Lower Trestles, of course)?

In 98 the crazy weather was attributed to El Niño and the news wouldn’t shut up about it. This year is also an El Niño and the news won’t shut up about climate change.

The climate is changing – that’s an irrefutable fact. To tie the lack of waves or any one singular event to climate change is irresponsible at best.

‘Makes a lot of sense’
It’s all thr fucn carbon the WSL is responsible for spewing out every fucn year that got us in this fix. I have the solution. Normal surfers should be tagged and restricted to their ‘local’ spots. Automatic fine if they stray outside their designated surfline monitored ‘surfzone’. The resultant carbon offset can then be used by Dave Prodan to ferry the WSL elites to and from tour stops. Whereupon they’ll also get good waves. Rules for thee, but not for me.

Eddie was Epic Backdoor Shootout had swell J Bay week(s) before the contest was massive same with the Gold Coast before the QS Supertubos had swell before the contest. Has mother nature cooperated for stops on the tour probably not But by the same token I’ve seen so many tour guys free surf the last 2 years in great waves see the debacle at G Land and the they put a Jersey on and it goes flat… That’s more on the WSL not getting the windows right than mother nature…

Ohh and we have never had shit surf seasons previously ? ,what fucken planet does this clown live on , where I hang I can recollect more average to below average quality seasons than excellent ones.
