"Our most ambitious project yet, designing and building our family home. Four years from start to rollercoaster finish."
You certainly won’t have to shuffle through too many stories to realise BeachGrit, or at the very least its Sydney bureau, has long held a fascination and, likely although never faced, a love for the surfer and shaper Hayden Cox.
The forty-three-year-old Hayden Cox has done things his way, to quote ol Frankie, and never has this more apparent than in his latest home renovation, this time at Sydney’s Palm Beach. Cox and his marketing genius wife Danielle, have fashioned a neo-futurist dreamscape with its warm but technologically advanced aesthetic, very much like his in-demand and gorgeously brazen surfboards.
The house features in an upcoming issue of Vogue Living.
Sharing a carousel of the rebuild Cox writes:
The most challenging & ambitious project yet, designing and building our family home ‘Alaïa’ named after our daughter. 4 years from start to finish and a rollercoaster to bring it to the finish line. So stoked to finally be complete. Every detail and area had material at its heart including bringing my love for surfboards through not only the art, but up-cycling our manufacturing foam and fibreglass waste into the concrete elements throughout the home. Palm Beach, Sydney, is our favourite place in the world and true to the area we wanted to create a place that is calm, connected and always sunny.

Thats a beautiful acrylic slab coffee table / killing device for any self respecting half-energetic 4 year old.
Seems to be the only sharp, edgy object in an otherwise millennial, soft and round, beige fluffy home.
Can smell the estate agents wet panties from there.
How much do you really need to be happy?
Less is more I say.
go camping
2.5 million would personally do it.
I’m more of an ascetic than ol Negs, gimme another mill five and I won’t bother anyone ever again.
Umm, some lottery winner won like 10 mil and a couple years later they were broke.
More than one…
One of surfings youngest industrialists and a nice guy, gave surfboards the literal old college try, follows get rich books by the book, married weal but probably more lucky he met Craig Anderson, his name is bought and sold from one investor to the next like a 356 Speedster, he is on the house flipping chapter, more likely to be a old politician than an old shaper, Rusty called him a one hit wonder
Tune-in next time on “Rich Cuntz”…(check your local listings).
“our family home ‘Alaïa’ named after our daughter”…whom is named after the ancient Hawaiian alaia surfboard ……because…..she’s Hawaiian…..or because I make surfboards, and some shapes are referred to as Alaia………..or…..well fuck, the house is expensive as a bucket of sand in Newport Beach.
wanna buy a board?
If I had a daughter I would name her Midlength.
Did he name his son “mal”?
Sticking with the appropriative theme, “Olo” would be the proper name…..or “Kiko`o”, if you like try ack one educated high muk muk.
Dez, you’re the only one here who talks up this yuppie cunt.
Everyone else thinks he’s a dick.
Which he is.
Au contraire, Az. In the reals, he and his gal are two of the sweetest people you could meet.
is Beige really the color of the future?
such an adventurous color palette.
no it’s vanilla,LOL!
and the best marketing team in surfing!
And THAT Derek, my fine fellow, is where the problem lies.
Sweetness is akin to sicklyness.
If you’d said they were a most ‘savoury’ couple that would be different…
ah so Savoury vs sweet….or sugar vs salt”
sugar was my love…but Diabetes cured that now salty kinda guy,LOL…
And kind! Very sensitive to criticism, howevs.
Really ?
…”Very sensitive to criticism”… ?
Really really ?
Are ya sure ?
Niiiiiiiice, niiiice, niiice, niice nice.
Cos I could definitely come on pretty strong with some hardcore criticism if needed, especially if you can promise that they’ll cry.
Can ya promise that Dezza ?
Can ya ?
That’d be cooooooool, cooool, coool, coool, cool.
(just lemme know what i need to do, and where, also when…)
Yuppie? I didn’t realise you were over 70!
Not there yet, young Nega. But I’m working on it….
Biked for 40 odd km in the am and did a couple of hours on the chainsaw ringing logs in the arvo yesterday. No plans to repeat that today tho … might have a day off hahahahar
Miss the days of chainsawing, drinking beers and avoiding family responsibilities under the guise of “filling the woodshed”
Australia rode on the sheeps back. He rode on the backs of a flock of hypto kooks.
Well played.
Xox
He named his daughter
After a surfboard and house
After his daughter?
At least he didn’t call her Thruster!
“There’s no money in surfboards”
Finding the margin of mass consumption and core kooks.

Hear that a lot, yet see empires from the big names.
I lived in a ‘coffee-shack’ (wood-cabin), on da Big Island, about 380 sq ft, with no electricity for over 10 years—absolutely some, if not the best, years of my life!
Yeah it’sgood hey. 25 yrs off the grid for me. Enabled me to surf waves I never thought I’d get to cos blood sucking utility companies weren’t getting my $
I live in a chook shed , no water /electricity…….blessed to have a roof over my head!
