World surf tour teeters on brink after Gabriel Medina joins chorus slamming Tahiti Pro result

"Are you satisfied WSL? Destroying one man's dream to make another's come true?"

The door of the WSL’S panic room is firmly bolted tonight after some of the biggest names in the sport, including three-time world champ Gabriel Medina, slammed the result of the Lexus Tahiti Pro, won by Hot Rodent Man Jack Robinson.

Brazil’s  João Chianca had expressed his dissatisfaction with the result of his round of 16 heat with eventual runner-up Griff Colapinto, losing 15 points to 14.97.

“That was a joke WSL. Overall happy with my surfing,” wrote Chianca. “That last one was a joke. Thank you, cheerleader.”

The below the commentary was a who’s who of angry Brazilians including Gabriel Medina who wrote:

GNT fucking complains, but if GNT doesn’t get the surfers together… so ima keep doing that..

…which subsequently led to Brazilians describing previous wrongdoings by the WSL.

brother you were and always will be the most stolen in history! I’ll never forget the year John John was Campeao and you eliminated trestles by Tanner Gudauskas. That was the biggest robbery in history.

will never get over that drum roll Cole Houshmand gave on the last wave (mix) at Bells last year.

guys are huge for sports, you would have easy ability to organize a fair and well-paid league and unlink you from this garbage called WSL

Brazilian surf fans have long had form for weeping about contest results. This despite Brazilians, including Gabriel Medina, Italo Ferreira and Filipe Toledo, winning five of the last six world titles.

Gabriel Medina, as you know, has had a long and troubled relationship with his administrative masters. His criticism of the tour’s judging has been relentless with bombshell after bombshell, calls for revolutions etc.

You’ll remember three years ago he threw the tour into disarray when he withdrew from the Pipe Masters citing mental issues – not unlike his lil buddy Filipe Toledo a couple of years later, and, in January, when he was forced to pull out of this year’s tour after a titty injury.

And don’t forget the time Filipe Toledo’s daddy Ricky poured fuel on the fire when Griffin Colapinto beat Filipe and fans promised blood on the beach at Saquarema.
