How then would surf fans find entertainment? What could possibly ease our troubled minds?
Well, the first light broke through the grey, yesterday, when Roku announced a Laguna Beach: The Real Orange County 20 year reunion special was in the works. Surf fans able to finally discover what’s happened to Stephen Colletti, Lauren “LC” Conrad, Kristin Cavallari these two decades on.
And now, this morning, news that the most popular surf film ever is getting a small-screen adaptation.
Yes, Surf’s Up burst into our hearts in 2007. The mocumentary followed delightful surfing penguins and included cameos by Kelly Slater and Rob Machado. The film was a favorite of moviegoers and critics alike, going on to earn over $150 million at the box office.
It’s television return will feature the same characters and be targeted at children aged 6-9, according to Deadline, with 11-minute episodes.

Twiner McCarron, CEO of Atomic Cartoons and Thunderbird Entertainment declared, “Our team at Atomic is thrilled to be working on Surf’s Up: The Series and for the opportunity to introduce these adored characters to the small screen, reaching new and existing fans of the iconic animated film.”
Aaron Behl, who will executive produce the series, added, “(The writing team of) Lienne, Dan and John are passionate about only two things in life – penguins and surfing. It was undeniable that they were the write team – pun intended – to adapt Surf’s Up as a hilarious animated series.”
