Master of guerrilla marketing Gabriel Medina slammed for “childish” fake baby post

Entire world fooled including world champs Mick Fanning and Molly Picklum and even sponsor Kathmandu!

The greatest Brazilian surfer of all time, Gabriel Medina, has been slammed by fans after he revealed earlier today that his post about becoming a daddy was just guerrilla marketing to push his new kids surfboard label Medininha.

The post, below, fooled every media outlet and pro surfer of note, including world champs Mick Fanning and Molly Picklum and even his sponsor, Kathmandu.

The post was liked three hundred k times and received five thousand comments.

Taken at face value, it was happy news for the unlucky in love thirty-two-year-old three-time world champ whom, you’ll remember, was married to the very pretty stork-like woman Yasmin Brunet, although it sank amid rumours of Brunet’s wild jealousy and the strain of Medina’s then-estrangement from his mammy and step-daddy.

The baby mama of the kid was the 28-year-old Brazilian model, influencer, and television personality Isabella Arantes.

Now, Gabriel Medina has let the ol cat outta the bag, announcing the kid brand, which features little surfboards and even littler chillun leashes.

Buried in the comments are dissatisfied fans.

Were you fooled by this sophisticated switcharoo, too?

I found reveal a little sad ’cause baby making is a man’s greatest role in this intricate web we’re all in. It don’t meant much without it.

Just trying to wash the gayness off. Neiymer was not impressed…

Des, mate, some of us have had it pretty tough through infertility. I’m not going to get all hurt, but the persistent claims life lacks meaning without kids – when you’re stuck with a lame ballsack, or dicky fanny – stings a bit.

Would upvoting, then, be equivalent to a wank?

@TheRealJackMeoff

Absolutely🤣

Good on ya Gabe for not banging another random kid into the world. Wait until you and partner feel 100% MUST make a family. By far best chances of best outcomes

@TheRealJackMeoff

Nah that is an aspirational myth.
The reality is you are never ready even if you think you are, and that unplanned product of passion and lack of contraception is what forces you to step up, either making or breaking you and your partner while you both struggle to define yourselves.
Gabe should step up.

PacificNorthPest

Nah that’s an excuse. I’ll give you that most babies in the world are made by people who haven’t made a committed conscious decision to take on raising children and having a family. That’s a fact. And they don’t all fuck up. But the people who by far create the best odds of good outcomes for children are people who are actively choosing family and are affirmatively committed to family from the start.

And again, it’s an odds play, not an on off switch. But the odds are what they are.

Everybody has doubts of course, but the more you know you want it and the more you are in, the better the chances.

@TheRealJackMeoff

Nah I know plenty of of failed planners. And I know of plenty of failed children that came from great parents.
Again it is an aspirational myth.
Yeah it sounds logical and right that a shared want and planning of a well timed parenthood together is ideal, but the truth is no matter how long together or what you have been through with your partner, your relationship has never dealt with the kind of stress that comes with actually being a new family. The truth is having a kid is the ultimate test of any union.
It’s kind of like surfing Pipe,
you can prepare all you want, but in the end none of that matters until you get out there and pop that cherry for better or worse.
Quit waffling and just get it over with already, and figure it out as you go along.

PacificNorthPest

We could exchange anecdotes and pretend that those are evidence all day. I can line up 10 studies that show that people who wait to have children until they are best prepared wind up with better average outcomes than people who have children more randomly.

And it makes perfect sense according to your logic just above here. You’re essentially saying that people find out a baby is on the way, and then they need to establish the type of mindset that someone intentionally having children when they are ready already has. But of course some of those people who don’t have that mindset don’t develop the mindset. And nearly all of the people who already have that mindset keep it. So even within your own thought process, it’s unreasonable to claim that what I am asserting is untrue.

PacificNorthPest

I will give you though that it is a huge leap for sure, and nearly everyone feels doubts, even many people who are super into having kids and family. So we might be on the same page and just not meshing semantically. And for sure none of it is destiny, just probability within which individuals certainly do have agency.

@TheRealJackMeoff

It’s weird but this subject has got me. On a surface level I do not deny that what you are saying is true. Essentially what you are saying, the more optimal the conditions, the better the probability for a good outcome.
But for me that mindset leads to elitist eugenics mindsets.
I have much respect for those that had the discipline and teamwork to make a planned parenthood a reality, but I have just as much respect for those that found their way through the storm.
In the end life is a spectrum, and it takes the whole of it to shine bright.
I guess I am just advocating for those in harder spots.

@TheRealJackMeoff

Nah I am saying that those who wait to meticulously plan out parenthood are in fact more likely to collapse under pressure as they are by nature strict and regimented.
And plenty studies linking abnormalities with late parenthood.
And while studies are great and all, I can point to real life experience when it comes to it, my first being planned and second not.
I can agree that under optimal conditions two people willing and able who have it together and want to be parents optimalizes conditions, but that kind of union is like a unicorn in the real world.
Anyway my larger point is Gabe is more than ready to have a kid, it’s the only thing making him less of a man.

PacificNorthPest

Maybe biased because I live surrounded by people who wanted families, planned for them, waited for the right time, and have had good outcomes. And we aren’t even Mormons.

It’s sour grapes to invent some sort of fanciful counter-narrative wherein the people who statistically on average have the most success as parents are actually cripplingly uptight and actually failing as parents. Fits your worldview but simply untrue.

@TheRealJackMeoff

Show me the study where parents who meticulously planned their parenthood had better outcomes.
I mean meticulous in the most literal sense of the word.
That again is a unicorn fable.
Even if two parents are on board and prepared rarely does the meticulous planning pan out.
It’s more like two people together that are on the same page and we’re ready when the moment happened.
And even more than just parents, the families on both sides and even the community you live in.
From where I sit, my worldview is covered by young families totally not planned but doing okay because of cultural norms and family unity.
Sure we may reach for the peak of idealism, but not meeting those standards doesn’t mean a guaranteed bad outcome.

Abscessed Llama

Impressed very smart move! Kids are to stoked to be haters..Get them on his gear young, decades of products to sell. Gab’ee hold out for a few more years or a decade to have kids find the best women you can mate! Time is still on your side.
