California, as you most certainly know, is a state that leans left, politically. It has not had a republican governor since The Governator left office in 2011 and has not voted for a republican president since George H.W. Bush in 1988. Its major cities painted a medium-to-dark blue and yet there are some corners that kick against the democratic goads. Most of these are far inland, beyond the misty mountains, though not all. Huntington Beach, better known as Surf City, has been moving right for years and, today, has all seven of its councilmembers identifying as MAGA.
Huntington Beach has forbidden progressive books in its libraries, banned the flying of LGBTQIA+ flags from city property and stood up to Gavin Newsom and his meddling pinko ways.
Days ago, it was rewarded with a fabulous new gay progressive congressman of its own.
California voters, you see, recently passed Prop 50 which allows the state’s voting map to be furiously redrawn in order to benefit democrats and screw republicans. The gerrymander move was made, it was said, to counter goings on in Texas where that state’s voting map was furiously redrawn in order to benefit republicans and screw democrats.
Well, and again, it passed and Huntington Beach is now folded into Congressional District 42 led by Rep. Robert Garcia. The former Long Beach mayor, a gay progressive, is not worried about his new charges, declaring, “At the end of the day, I know I’m going to represent everyone. I think whether you’re a republican in Newport Beach or a Democrat in Seal Beach, at the end of day, people want you to focus on what’s going to make their lives better.”
Pat Burns, Huntington Beach’s MAGA mayor, is wary, though, countering, “I don’t trust him. I (saw) him on TV, chanting in these rallies. He’s (drunk) the poison of the Democrat party, and he’s all in for the big show, and not for what’s right.”
“Getting emotional,” according to the local NBC affiliate, he added, “We love America. We love this community, and we want to preserve it. It’s important.”
