Surfline, usually a place surfers go to get bamboozled by surf reports, went mainstream viral, days ago, after one of forecasting giant’s surf cameras caught what are being called UFOs. The affair unfolded in two separate locations, Ventura and Newport Beach, in the wee hours when most surfers are tucked into bed as snug as bugs in rugs.
Cozy.
The Ventura business occurred at 4:30 am when two almost comically UFO looking UFOs appeared, hovering with a slight tilt over the palms and lapping waves. They disappear for a moment before being joined by a host of comically UFO looking UFOs. The Newport affair doesn’t showcase and UFOs, merely a strange looking beam of light slowly combing the shoreline.
UFO Surf Debate
Surf enthusiasts, who also happen to be armchair astronomers, just straight into the comments with theories and analysis. A sampling:

Taun Healy: I’ll call fake, please prove me wrong. I can assume surfline paid an animator and didn’t want to go crazy with the budget, a cheap solution is to duplicate the objects and slightly tweak their properties like size, angle of rotation, movement, but even the movement, size, angle of rotation and flashing is hardly tweaked. I think the flashing animation is a direct replica. That might be a real phenemona, but it makes it hard to believe. It would be far more believable if the light interacted with the objects around it and even created lens flaring. Even more so if it moved below the tree line as that would require a much higher budget for rotoscoping. Hit us with the good stuff surfline, rather don’t sell your souls and integrity for the algorithim, but ey, your brand, seems to be a trendy thing to do. The second clip may look even more fake than the first. The rays don’t diverge at all.

Williams: Hello biologist here, a lot of people are wondering what this possibly could be and I think this is likely a pod of Humboldt that are potentially migrating up the California coastline. Over the last five years researchers at the Monterey Bay Aquarium Research Institute have been seeing more Humboldt squid expanding beyond their home ranges tropical and subtropical waters of the East Pacific and invading the sea of central California. They’ve even been spotted as far north as San Francisco!
