Surfers terrified after revelation U.S. used civilian-presenting plane to bomb drug boats in Caribbean

Perfidy alert.

New information has come to light, in the U.S. “war” on alleged drug smuggling boats in the Caribbean, leaving surfers terrified of a slippery slope giving way beneath their bootied feet. According to new reports, one of the airplanes used to obliterate the vessels, going back for seconds to explode folk bobbing in the water, was disguised as a civilian craft.

The New York Times declaring it had “been painted to obscure its military identity, and its munitions were hidden inside its fuselage rather than visible under its wings.”

The Pentagon is, of course, justifying the killings based on the grounds that the United States is at war with the cartels. That reasoning has been broadly rejected by legal experts seeing as Congress has not approved and cartels are not countries.

The claim of war, anyhow, causing new troubles as disguising planes, trains and automobiles to present as civilian is a war crime known as “perfidy” defined in the U.S. Law of War Manual as, “acts that invite the confidence of enemy persons to lead them to believe that they are entitled to, or are obliged to accord, protection under the law of war, with intent to betray that confidence.”

A fine word by any measure.

Nehal Bhuta, professor of public international law at the University of Edinburgh, frustratedly told The Guardian, “If we move from the legally incorrect premise that this is a lethal operation governed by the laws of war, then the concept of perfidy here is relevant,” continuing to add that dressing military wares up endangers all, as you or I in our Volkswagens and Toyota Tacomas could become a target.

“This is precisely the destructive slippery slope that a firm commitment to prohibition against perfidy is aimed to avoid,” he said at the end.

And that slippery slope, now, a real and potential problem in the surf world. What if a VAL, for example, becoming inspired, loses his Wavestorm and rash guard only to pick up a Mayhem Sabo Taj and Feral 2mm short sleeve full (in black) and paddles to the peak at Lower Trestles?

He would be indistinguishable from Kolohe Andino and possibly be gifted a right or left.

Perfidy, man.
