Barrels or Buffalo wings?
Tomorrow is Super Bowl Sunday, in America, that time of year when loved ones gather together around bowls of melted cheese, 7-layer dip, chili, buckets of chips, pretzels, popcorn, plates of hot diggity dogs and watch football.
This year sees the Seattle Seahawks go up against New England’s Patriots in Santa Clara. The Seahawks are the betting favorite, helmed by a revitalized Sam Darnold, though the plucky Patriots have surprised, the entire season, and could pull and exciting upset.
Puerto Rico’s Bad Bunny is performing the much-anticipated halftime show on the main broadcast. Charlie Kirk’s Turning Point USA providing counter-programming for racists featuring Kid Rock over on TBN.
While most are thrilled, Southern California’s jock surfers are experiencing much consternation.
A swell event, you see, is currently underway and Sunday will see many fine waves licking the coast from Malibu all the way down to Pacific Beach.
In days past, this would not have been a problem as surfers were proudly anti-football and had no interest in catching the big game. As of a decade ago, though, many surfers have transitioned into jocks and must make a decision.
Barrels or Buffalo wings?
A serious dilemma.
The game doesn’t begin until later afternoon and so jock surfers might attempt to have their jalapeño poppers and eat them too by surfing in the morning, but the tides are looking better for the second half of the day.

Going surfing and/or snowboarding on SB sunday is great. Best day of the year to do either. The crowd situation was always so much better. I bet it would be the perfect time to take the family to Disneyland too.

how about we celebrate Super Bowl Sunday……big swells in Hawaii…DDD riding the bay with one other till it started closing out…yours truly , was at Hanalei staying at the Hanalei bay Hotel with the fam……direct access to paddle around from the back of the Bay thru the keyhole…….hardly anyone out so Paddle out on my 8 9……arrive wide of the takeoff, see a set of at least 15’+…couple of guys ask me where the takeoff zone is……as a 20′ set comes thru most perfect big waves I have even seen but impossible to paddle into the takeoff zone a lot of rip …..then the whole outside of the bay was a huge black set coming way off the scale…….we all paddled frantically for the middle 0f the bay….scratching over the first couple of waves……the last couple are fucken huge….while scratching over them….I look inside and the waves are flawless top to bottom barrels…..but…30′ +…….absolutely shit myself……paddled down to the end of the wave caught a 6 ‘ dribble in…scampered back to the Hotel , tail between my legs…..spoke to DD later that week……one of the biggest swells ever surfed at Waimea…..the Super Bowl Sunday swell ……still some of the biggest most perfect surf I have ever seen…..perfection on steroids…there ya go SB Sunday Story…anyone else??

Two of my most hated teams are in town. I hoped it would be pouring rain for a week but to no avail. Security so tight there are military escorts with machine guns escorting the ferry boats from Marin to SF.

They all sleep well after. To get the Cove at overhead, $75 plus swag, is pretty epic. Saw so many vids of perfect Rincon through the cove. Not to mention it was a beautiful day here. I opted for some bass fishing myself. 🤷🏼♂️
