A long simmering question will finally be answered, this coming Saturday, May 30th when Kelly Slater and Dylan Graves go up against Mick Fanning and Nathan Hedge at Burleigh in order to determine, once and for all, if the United States is better at everything than Australia.
The forecast is calling for contestable 3-4 ft with pleasant winds.

Dylan Graves comes from Puerto Rico making certain segments of the American population furious. Some are claiming they will stage an alternative national surf-off featuring Matt Archbold and Christian Fletcher versus Tom Carroll and Nick Carroll that will run at the same time.
Brazil, left out, has Brazilian surf fans fuming while demanding Neco Padaratz and Ricardo Toledo be allowed to take on the winner in order to determine, once and for all, if Brazil is better than both the United States and Australia at everything.
If Padaratz and Toledo lose, it will be because the judges hate Brazil.
But if you are Burleigh-adjacent, this coming Saturday, will you attend? Will you dress in either stars and stripes or southern crosses?

Lovely that Newquay, in the summertime. Was there for close to 3 months in the summer of ‘04. It was the most glorious English summer ever.

For years I’ve watched Margo and always said, “ God, he rips.”
I recently saw a clip of him, and for the first time said, “God, getting old is going to be shit.” His surfing, as it will do for everyone, has recently taken a massive regression.
Although, maybe I just saw a shit clip as LT says he’s still tearing buckets. I’m not talking smack about Margo, because I don’t do that, and I love his style, but it’s something I really noticed.
I surfed with him a bit until fairly recently. Haven’t seen him for a while. He isn’t threatening the CT but he’s an impressive bloke on a wave by any normal measure. Even if you had no idea who he was, you’d know he was at top tier pro level at some point.

Has anybody ever owned a worse surf product than On A Mission leashes and pads? If so, I want to hear about it because it must have been really bad. OAM products were simply the absolute worst, and a pox upon surfers. What was your worst?

I’ve got a brand new Rip Curl steamer that’s leaking after two surfs. Presenting that old situation of either wearing it till it’s so fucked it’s pointless , trying to fix it myself and compromising the warranty or sending it away and having no steamer for most of winter.
Horrid. I would have assumed that there was a fixit shop close by, but that’s probably naïveté on my behalf.
The answer is always neoprene glue and wetsuit patches (I prefer little cut up pieces of wetsuit). The Aussies are lucky that the OAM products likely never made it over the great sea in any major numbers.

Velcro was fucked within a couple months time.
Does sending them in still work to get a replacement? Used to send suits back every year to O’neill and it was a guarantee replacement if it had even the slightest tear. Was under the impression that they don’t really honor the warranties anymore.
Definitely good for repair or replacement. It’s more the fact of a brand new product needing repair and it’s my end taking the loss for missed time in the water without a viable backup wettie and perhaps paying freight to Torquay.
E5 neoprene in that suit?
RC replaced 2 for me. Both fucked within a month – neoprene was rotting. Falling to pieces.
Never again. Went vissla. Edit: xcel went xcel. Got a vissla 1mm vest for underneath. Fucken good and last.
Had two rip curl wetsuits in my time. Worst purchases ever. One barely used short arm long leg had the zipper seize up. Sent it in. Then the new one seized up. Never again.
I just hope old Longtom doesn’t put $25 on Australia like he did on Morgs at Raglan. We know how he gets when he loses money.
