The gorgeous coastal hamlet of Huntington Beach, the jewel in the Orange County crown it’s said and only a short thirty-five miles or three hours drive from downtown Los Angeles, is in mourning tonight after it was revealed UFC Hall of Famer Tito Ortiz had fled the joint due to crime, homelessness, and the ed system teaching chillun how to tuck and power bottom in school etc.
“I never wanted to leave California. But I left because of the crime, the fraud and the growing threat to the safety of my children,” Ortiz said.
“The streets are lawless. There’s rampant fraud, there’s threats. I had to get out of there.”

“My kids came first. It was hard for me to do it, but since I’ve done it, I’ve been very happy, very comfortable. The people out here are amazing. I do miss Southern California, of course.”

From an outside perspective, I’ve always enjoyed my brief stays in Huntington Beach and have been pleasantly surprised by the quality of the much maligned surf there.
A Californian paradise of sorts.

Why in the F would you have $375k in a home safe?
This guy fell out of a tree and hit every single fucking branch on the way down. Still didn’t knock any sense into him.
Someone claiming it’s not normal to have a few 100k stashed in a safe in the house doesn’t know what they’re talking about.
It’s actually pretty common to have a lot of cash, jewelry or gold locked up at home. Doesn’t mean you don’t have a bank account but always best to have certain stuff stashed at home.

Your safe deposit box isn’t as safe as you think it is.
Second, being that most currency is represented digitally in the banking system, it’s good to have a fair amount of the real thing stashed under a mattress just in case.
Lastly, look at the kind of stuff that has happened during banking crises around the world when it comes to the things people have stored in banks.
This isn’t conspiratorial stuff, it’s common sense. Pretty much anybody that has the money to do so has a safe stash in their house or property somewhere. There’s a pretty big market for safes for a good reason – people buy them for security.
Except the smart ones don’t actually put it in the safe, they stash it in wall built somewhere adjacent to it.
cash depreciates. It’s just like owning a lump of gold. Doesn’t pay you interest or a dividend.

I like California and actually got some great American mates. The big difference is the weirdos in the US are way different to ours.

I think some cultures are used to being oppressed. Whether they are predisposed to being oppressed, or simply subjected to more brutality, I can’t be sure however I suspect it’s the former.
The Chinese experience is instructive. Before mao, they were subjected to overlordship by various other rulers. I think culturally, they are just used to it.
That’s not to say that China really is communist in the original sense of the word but meek compliance seems part of the Chinese psyche (see Singapore, who are “goodies” but still happy to live under a benevolent dictatorship of Lee kuan yew).
The success of communism is it allows brutal maintenance and consolidation of power. It’s a flawed concept that should be laughed at if it wasn’t responsible for so much suffering.
