Surf fans near and far found themselves morphed into giddy school children, yesterday evening, after Sawyer Lindblad and Ethan Ewing released an Instagram Story featuring the latter gazing off into the distance and a heart emoji. The aforementioned surf fans screen captured the image as quickly as they could, sending it back and forth with dizzying speed.
Lindblad, 19, is, of course a professional surfer on the rise with a powerful modern style. Currently world number 11, the San Clemente-bred screwfoot won last year’s Rookie of the Year.
Ewing, 26 and hailing from Australia’s North Stradbroke Island, is considered one of the smoothest surfers on the Championship Tour where he is currently number 6.
Surfing has not had a power couple so fantastic since Jack Freestone and Alana Blanchard began dating over a decade ago.

Yes and I wonder if critical theory became popular here becuase it was a way of talking about class that doesn’t contradict parts of the American Civil Religion. Power is generally transitory. Some situations I have power over people, some situations people have power over me. Class is much more permanent and difficult to change.
I can’t explain why but it feels easier to reconcile power imbalances with the American Civil Religion than it is class. We all like to believe that a poor black dude will get treated the same as a rich white dude when pulled over for speeding. But when this doesn’t happen we will reach for any explanation that doesn’t involve class.

Get your facts straight, Jimmy was boning Summer Quinn, not CJ. Matt Brody dipped into both gals for a little bit, but the guys is a lousy surfer and an even worse singer. I know it’s easy to just throw names out, but please for the sake of all that Baywatch represents, get your shit right.

I think the power thing comes from how Americans are weird about class generally. “Equality under the law” and all that. But it’s more of a sincere/earnest* aspiration than it is a description of how the country actually works. It’s just hard for people to reconcile the American Civil Religion with hierarchies that results in different treatment based on who you are/your job/how much money you have/how politically connected you are etc.
*at least it was historically. Things are changing a lot right now here.
