President Trump’s Homeland Security Adviser and Deputy Chief of Staff for Policy Stephen Miller lowered the boom on the 82-year-old actor and filmmaker Robert De Niro, savaging 30 years of work, after the two-time Oscar winner called him a Nazi.
Appearing on MSNBC, De Niro was asked if Trump would leave office when his term was up and answered, “No way! We see it, we see it, we see it all the time — he will not want to leave. He set it up with, I guess he’s the Goebbels of the cabinet, Stephen Miller. He’s a Nazi. Yes, he is, and he’s Jewish, and he should be ashamed of himself!”
Miller was not pleased and went on Fox News to declare, “(De Niro) has not made a movie worth watching in at least 30 years. Probably the longest string of flops. Failures, embarrassments. This man has been degrading himself on camera with one horrific film after another for my entire adult life, and he’s not taken seriously by anybody, not by his family, not by friends, not his community. He’s a shell of a man, and everyone disregards everything he says.”
Cinephiles immediately locked horns, debates raging over which De Niro film of the past three decades is his best, even if he is a degraded, disregarded shell of a man.

Casino was epic, Heat too. I never saw Marvin’s Room but it looks weird. Cop Land was disappointing. Jackie Brown was fine but not Tarantino’s best. Wag the Dog should have been better. Ronin was enjoyable. Meet the Parents and Meet the Fockers were both fun enough. Silver Linings Playbook seemed good at the time but I have zero interest to revisit. The Joker was great. The Irishman was boring and went nowhere. I didn’t see Killers of the Flower Moon but it looks tedious and makes me grouchy to even think about watching.
De Niro’s second best film is Goodfellas, which is 35 years old, therefore not ending up on the “failure/embarrassment” heap.
First is, of course, The Godfather II.

years later I was talking with one of my neighbors in New York…guy from one of “the families”.
he had a De Niro story.
He was out in Manhattan with his wife and a couple of friends.
De Niro, Pesche, and Pacino siting at a nearby table with a couple of attorney’s and a producer.
De Niro was talking all tough guy, and noticed my neighbor giving him a look.
De Niro said: “what, what are you looking at? fuck off and mind your own business”
Neighbor walks over to the table and tells De Niro, “your an actor who pretends to be something you’re not…you pretend to be me”
De Niro mockingly: “Oh yeah….you’re a made guy. Right, Fuck off”
Neighbor calmly says: “okay, we’ll leave….I’ll be waiting for you when you leave”
De Niro said: “yeah, good…. beat it.fuck off”
At that moment the attorney looked at De Niro and said: “Shut the fuck up, Bobby. Just shut up”.
to my neighbor he said: “Sir, I’m very sorry. Sometimes bobby……Please, you stay. we will leave. your meal is on us. I apologize for his behavior”
Neighbor: “Thank you” looks at De Niro and says: “Now You, you aplogize”
De Niro finally realized the shit he was in and apologized.
they get up to leave, Pesce and Pacino shaking my neighbors hand, saying “Very Sorry Sir”.
Neighbor said: “Thank you. You’re good. Your freind….he’s a bit fo a prick. take care of him”

super nice guy. very respectful, gracious and polite. Always very well dressed. his pappy was in the biz and he took over as boss.
one of those guys that always remains calm, but all he had to do was look at you to let you know he was not to be trifled with. Never once saw him lose is temper.
had several legit businesses. I never asked him about his other enterprises as it was none of my business. If I had to guess, Id say he ran gambling and used his connections to make business happen. I know he had the goods on a lot of politicians based on some of his stories. I didn’t see him as an extortionist, but imagine by the way he was respected by local business, he probably provided services to the business community.
basically, those kind of guys are very kind with the general public, going out of their way to treat others with respect, same as Yakuza in Japan. business is business and if you’re not in it, they pretty much leave you alone.
One thing about being his neighbor…….you didn’t drive down our street without everyone on the street knowing you were there…and if you didn’t belong there, you were told it was not where you belonged.
he lived in the middle house in the street and everyone that lived on the street besides my roommate, me and a retired cop, were family. “Lieutenants” lived at both ends, and across the street was a small forest, so it was a very safe place to live.
