Big Weekend.
It is Labor Day weekend, in America, with families across this great land enjoying the last bits of summer with hot dog and corn on the cob feasts. Coca Cola flowing like much cheaper Sam’s Cola. Simple enjoyments and easy livin’ except for those who live in Southern California and count a surfer, or two, amongst members.
For those non-surfing mothers and fathers, aunts and uncles, brothers and sisters are busily lighting candles for their shred kin, hoping beyond hope that they will survive the massive swell just beginning to manifest from the powerful tentacles of Hurricane Marie.
The National Weather Service office in Los Angeles wasted no time in posting a High Surf Advisory that will last from 6 a.m. Saturday through 11 p.m. Tuesday for Los Angeles and Ventura counties, including Malibu and Catalina Island.
The big stuff.
“Increasing southerly swell will create hazardous surf conditions at the coasts,” the governmental agency warned.
Surfers, ever hellbent, are likely not to heed.
I just made the drive from Los Angeles to San Diego, through much traffic, and can attest that the swell lines from San Clemente to Oceanside stretched as far as the eye can see. But do you live here? Are you currently waxing your rhino chaser while your husband weeps over you? Where will you surf?
