Is this definitive proof we are living in a simulation?
Surf fans already semi-convinced we are living in a simulation received further confirmation, yesterday, when the World Surf League made the exciting announcement that two events would be added to the second-tier Challenger Series calendar. First, the iconic Banzai Pipeline, a wave so fierce that it sent little wave surf champion Filipe Toledo into a year of hiding.
WSL Senior Tour Manager Tarvis Logie, breaking the news, declared, “Pipeline is the ultimate proving ground and one of the most perfect yet challenging waves on the planet. For the next crop of CT surfers to have the opportunity to compete is a huge step forward for the Challenger Series, not to mention incredibly exciting for our fans to enjoy two major events at Pipe in just a couple of months.
Second, a stop in Australia at Newcastle.
Logie, continuing, added, “To finish the season and decide our CT qualifiers at the iconic Newcastle Surfest is amazing. It’s an event with so much surf history, and the whole town gets behind it, so to see our CS surfers realize their dreams in front of thousands of fans at Mereweather will be a huge moment.
Surf fans, dropped jaws, messaging each other if this glitch is real. For the Challenger Series is currently in Newcastle for the Surfest.
So two Newcastles?

EDIT: pretty obvious that they are re-scheduling the Newcastle comp so that the winners move straight on to Bells for the start of the season.

I think they only like Newy because of the sweet building directly overlooking the break. The officials get all cosy and wine and dine in the comfort of the Surfhouse and don’t have to get their shoes covered in
beachgritsand.I assume there’s plenty of rooting wherever they go. Plenty of talent in Newy. Not to mention what goes on between the male & female competitors.
But yes, free surfing in Indo would be a lot more fun

To schedule one event at Newcastle, Mr. Logie, may be regarded as a misfortune; to schedule both looks like carelessness.

So technically Surfest is a whole series of events held in Newy each year. There’s always some form of QS attached to it. Most recently it was a QS1000 ran back in March, and a different comp to the current standalone challenger series event now running.
It now seems that QS1000 for 2026 has also been rebadged as a Challenger series event. For the 2025 series.
Personally I think too much newy is never enough and I hope they run the second one at Surfest’s
original home at Newcastle beach. But understand the confusion and conjecture.

You have to qualify for the CS. No one else can enter it.
Sure no CT’ers can surf in it?
When did they change that rule?
A couple of seasons ago the CT crew had to do at least one QS to add some star power to events. Neither the QS or CT surfers were that happy about it for obvious reasons and they dropped it.
Can do the CT and the QS but neither can do the CS unless they’ve qualified for it. Don’t quote on that though!
