Surf fans have reacted angrily to posts from some of the sport’s biggest stars following the still-unsolved assassination of centre-right influencer and activist, the Master Debater as you know, Charlie Kirk, who was thirty-one.
Posts were led by National Intelligence Director, surfer and BFF of Kelly Slater, Tulsi Gabbard, who wrote in part: “This assassin killed him to prevent his voice from being heard, prevent him from inspiring others, as he did every day, and to terrorize and intimidate the American people into silence… We cannot allow their darkness and evil to perpetuate. Charlie Kirk truly loved our country and dedicated his life to protecting our God-given rights. ”
Noted surfers and surf-adjacent figures posting about the murder included Kai Lenny, Bethany Hamilton, one-time tour shredder Roy Powers and 2001 world champ CJ Hobgood who was gifted his title, ironically it has to be said, after the world was briefly shuttered following an attack on America by mostly Saudi Jihadists.
Not all surf fans were thrilled by the obits online.
And Bethany Hamilton’s account ran hot.

He also stated he would force his ten year old daughter to have the baby if she fell pregnant by rape. He didn’t believe in empathy and supported the second amendment. This is karma and some may say God’s plan to make the world a better place.”
CJ Hobgood, meanwhile, shared a couple of ol DM’s from freaks lighting him for being Christian and an American patriot to prove the point that ol Charlie Kirk must copped it hard before his murder.
“Shut the fuck up. Followed for surf and waves. Getting washed up surfer turned religious cocksucker real estate agent. Take the cross and go fuck yourself. Sell out.”
CJ wrote, “I’m a nobody and this is what they say to me. Imagine Charlie Kirk and how much they hate America and U.”
Roy Powers did a little follow-up to yesterday’s post about Kirk offering a little hand-to-hand combat with anyone celebrating his death. A somewhat difference response to CJ’s.
“I live in Kapahi. Let’s fucking go,” wrote Powers.
Kelly Slater, who ain’t usually afraid to wade into the culture wars, has remained conspicuously silent, aware, likely, he’s got enough loons lighting him already without waking up the homicidal.
If spreading truth is a crime then he was most certainly guilty. Take him down.

Hey, DR. If there’s an asterisk next to CJ’s title then it’s a very small one. Someone had to be “handed” the title that year, even though it likely wouldn’t have been him had the entire season played out.
Would the asterisk be as notable if Kelly, Sunny or Andy had been leading the title race in Sept 01 and been “handed” the title? Does that point even matter? He won it because he had more points than everyone else.

Reality is 98% of Americans had no idea who this guy was until Wednesday. People need to get out of their online bubbles and get outside into the real world.
I agree that we all need to be living in the real world and not in some online bubble but it sounds like you may need to use your own advice. Your reality is only in your own small bubble if you believe that 98% of this country never heard of a man that was featured on every news channel for the past 10 years, has spoke at more than 1000 campuses with thousands of in attendance each time, his podcast has 120 million downloads this year alone, and was acknowledged by all 6 living presidents. Love him or hate him either way he is a large figure in today’s pop culture. We all should be able to agree on being saddened and disgusted by a public assassination no matter of who it is or why it happened.

I like to think I’m reasonably well informed but the first I’d heard of him was in the recent South Park episode. The more I have read about him, the more I disliked his rhetoric.
He claimed to be a Christian but I have family and friends who he would prefer didn’t exist.
That said, he did not remotely deserve anything close to this.

Many of his debates on campuses he spoke out against self harm, bullying, acting out of rage and hate. You may be reading more of his haters with a bend toward ruining his name than the thousands of those that had only wonderful things to write about him. He wasn’t perfect and no one should be put on a pedestal so it’s probably fair to say he is somewhere in between those to extremes depending on you world view. Totally fair to disagree with his view of the world and perspective on any issue. You seem more than reasonably well informed. By saying that he didn’t deserve that you prove yourself kind. I hope we all can be that kind no matter who the person is or if we disagree with them to our core. No one deserves assassination for free speech.
