Zany Fyre Festival impresario Billy McFarland to jet ski from Honduras to Venezuela

“I expect to be the first American to arrive since capturing Maduro..."

Billy McFarland, who blasted into cultural awareness nearly a decade ago for staging a music bacchanal in the Bahamas that went completely sideways, is back in the news with yet another zany plan. But who could forget 2017’s Fyre Festival? McFarland, teaming up with Ja Rule, promised an ultra-luxe experience with fancy eco tents, food prepared by celebrity chefs and the sweet chords of Blink-182 all on a private island. Movie stars and influencers took to social media promoting the event

Well, all the bands cancelled, the weather was horrible, the eco tents were neither eco nor tent, the celebrity chefs never arrived, the toilets acted up, the island wasn’t private and it became a disaster of comical proportions.

The Failure of Fyre Festival

Billy McFarland was sued multiple times, afterward, then got properly busted by the FBI. The then-28-year-old plead guilty to one count of wire fraud and was sent to the hoosegow for 6 years, serving 4.

After getting out, the dough-faced impresario decided a redux was in order and began promoting Fyre Festival 2, in Mexico, but cancelled it after the planned location fell through.

Maybe bored, Billy McFarland just announced his next big play. An audacious jet ski adventure from Honduras to recently liberated Venezuela.

“I expect to be the first American to arrive since capturing Maduro,” McFarland told Page Six, explaining that he will not wait until geopolitical tensions cool but rather embark on the 1500 nautical mile journey, which will be live streamed.

“The only way to pay back $20 million (owed those that became scammed as part of the Fyre debacle) is to work, have concepts, and bring people together. By doing that over the past three years I have been paying restitution every month,” he continued “I need to do these things to earn money whether it’s getting paid for a TV show, marketing or brand sponsorships or, in this case, a live streaming platform. This is how I pay back restitution.”

Students of foreign affairs are well aware that the United States government is currently in the midst of a boat bombing campaign in the Caribbean. Do you imagine McFarland and his ski might get confused for a drug mule?

Will people tune into the live stream hoping?

More as the story develops.

One nit – Venezuela is not ‘liberated’. Dude going to get blown up. I’m sure there are some degenerate gamblers putting money on it. Carry on.

so much fun.
on of my old roomies in Newport was national amateur champ. One of this best mates was Larry Rippenkroeger, who used to come ski with us,
so we had some great skis that we used to wave ride in Newport, before they banned beach launches.

deeks

Used to watch glyndon ringrose and his brother (I think)
punch through waves and completely submerge and then fly out airborne. Looked like heaps of fun

Happy Camper

my roomie had a souped up 440 that as so good for submarining.
so light it would launch like mad, and it surfed unreal.

Inspiring. I will now embark on a walking tour of local bars to pay off my student loans.

Taking perilous journeys to pay off debt….
Sounds strangely familiar.
