Bondi Beach lifeguard says terror attack was tragically predictable as PM blames lax gun control laws

It’s like the Allies in 1945 describing the Holocaust as a gas oversupply problem.

It’s a surreal feeling to wander the streets of your neighbourhood, the blood of slaughtered Jews still visible on the scorched summer grass, second day of Hanukkah, and find it packed with death porn enthusiasts, as well as longtime hate grifters, dripping crocodile tears for the cameras after their dreams of globalising the intifada finally came true. 

And, at the top, a prime minister, well known for his hate of the Jewish state, describing the “incident” as a gun issue.  It’s like the Allies in 1945 describing the Holocaust as a gas oversupply problem or Bush in 2001 calling the Al Qaeda hit on New York and Arlington as an issue with Boeing.

This after the firebombing of synagogues and cars, the graffiti, the Iranian arson attacks on Jewish businesses, and the ecstatic celebrations of the slaughter of Jews on October 7, 2023, worldwide, including by prominent and well-liked surfers. 

How can we forget the prizewinning surf filmmaker, famous for her push for gender equality in prizemoney, Lucy Small posting a series of jubilant Instagram stories after the attack.

These included a reel  from Al Jazeera showing Hamas terrorists in paragliders landing in Israel and about to murder and rape indiscriminately with the caption, “Palestinians in Gaza made history as they escaped the world’s largest prison”. 

Small explained the apparent contradiction of a feminist and trans-activist supporting a religious fascist group notorious for killing gays and subjugating women with, “The end of occupation may allow for healing. It is common in communities affected by armed violence, rates of domestic violence and violence against women are higher – it’s a tragic part of war.”

In another salvo, Lucy Small described the Jewish state as being “at the nexus of colonisation, white supremacy, capitalism and (the) military industrial complex…”

Ain’t saying Lucy Smalls called for the killing of Australian Jews or was in anyway responsible for the Bondi attack, which she clearly and obviously wasn’t, the killers were a couple of Pakistani muslims singing from the ISIS songbook, but the demonisation of the Jewish state, even by secular Australians unconnected in any way to the conflict, did bring a terrible pressure down on Australian Judaism.

The lifeguard and star of Bondi Rescue Anthony Carrol, whom you might know as Harries, knows: “This was a wound that’s been festering for such a long period of time now, and there hasn’t been enough done,” he said.

And, while Bondi cops were ineffective in any response to the bondi beach shooting, despite body armour, despite their own guns, and despite a Syrian fruit shop owner who disarmed one of the shooters only to let him go back to his shooters nest on the bridge, other lifeguards were sprinting from distant beaches to render aid. 

Clint Kimmins, big-wave surfer turned lifeguard, posted a shot of one of his lifeguard brothers sprinting the two clicks from Tamarama in the south to the North Bondi slaughter.

Rescuing swimmers is NOT heroic.
Driving a jet ski into heavy seas is NOT heroic.
Performing a resuscitation on the sand is NOT heroic, ITS OUR JOB.

RUNNING BAREFOOT INTO LIVE GUNFIRE WITH TRAUMA KITS AND FIRST AID EQUIPMENT IS HEROIC.

My lifeguard coworkers were the absolute first on scene, doing everything they could to help in a situation that could have very easily endangered their own lives.

I cannot begin to fathom what the families affected are going through, and I send my deepest sympathies to all of them.

What I can’t look past is the incredible work the LIFEGUARD staff do at the craziest beach in the world, day in and day out, without hesitation, without ego, and without expectation.
