Kanye West “dark twisted fantasy” Malibu house turned into timeshare for cosplaying couples

"This is not a traditional whole-asset sale..."

Kanye West certainly needs no introduction, here, or likely anywhere. The multi-hyphenate artist, producer, designer etc. has been in the news almost daily for the past decade. He was, of course, an acclaimed musician before that but ten-ish years ago, Kanye West married Kim Kardashian and, subsequently, became very eccentric.

Five years ago, the two became divorced and Ye’s wild ride truly kicked into high gear. He teased a run for president of the United States, made lots of swastika clothing, praised Adolf Hitler much and bought an architectural gem on Malibu’s tony shore and really just plain wrecked it.

The home, designed by the Japanese master Tadao Ando and purchased, by Kanye West, for $57+ million in 2021, was subsequently gutted and destroyed. The brilliant architectural theorist and go-to author of Australian political memoir (buy here and here) Derek Rielly declaring, “(The home) became an experiment where Ye indulged his fascination for architecture alongside his new gal’s university-honed skills.”

The results seen below:

Kanye West unloaded the property, in any case, some years later for much loss. After kicking around the market, for a minute, it has now been scooped up by a firm that appears to have a nifty take on the middle America joy of “fractional ownership,” better known as timesharing.

Kanye West for Cosplaying Couples

The new owner, Populis, is offering up what appears to be $12 mil stakes in the property to rich folk who might want to snag a second or third tier Kardashian then go bananas.

According to the post on Zillow:

Christie’s International Real Estate | SoCal is proud to introduce Populis, an exclusive new membership that includes partial economic ownership and access to incredible properties, including this architecturally significant Tadao Ando-designed oceanfront residence in Malibu, formerly owned by Ye and one of only a handful of Ando homes in the United States. This is not a traditional whole-asset sale. It is a private, membership-driven opportunity designed for buyers seeking exposure to blue-chip real estate without assuming full ownership, management, or renovation responsibility. Populis members can purchase SmartDeeds, digital contracts that document their interest in the property program. This property is being restored using high end artists and artisans. Members gain priority access to curated information, on-property experiences and restoration updates, as well as a wide array of networking and educational opportunities. Members also get to participate in real economic upside upon clearly defined exits, like sale or buyback.
